I think this question is for Sepiana. I recall a tool that I think Adobe provided that was a way to easily try different textures within PS/PSE. However, I can't find it online or searching this forum. I'm hoping someone knows what I'm talking about.
the problem is having so many textures and easily trying them out.

In the full version of photoshop, there is one in layer styles.

Andy, Here is another texture applicator. It's an action though. I downloaded it a long time ago but never used it. Free Texture Applicator! (for Elements and Photoshop)
