I have a mid 2011 MacBook Pro. The 500 GB hard drive was replaced with a 1 TB Samsung 850 Pro SSD. The drive swap and Yosemite OS was done at the Apple store. The OS then automatically upgraded itself to version 10.10.4. Boot times are extremely quick and most apps are also very fast, including MS Office. Adobe Photoshop Elements 9 and 11 apps are both quick to load, but editing is very slow. It takes several seconds for each operation in the editor. Even moving an image from left to right takes forever. When I try to crop an image it takes about 20 seconds. This happened from the very start. I have been running it this way for 7 weeks. Yesterday I ran the terminal command 'sudo trimforce enable', which indicated the command was successful. This has not had any affect on the performance of the photo editing software.
New information. A friend suggested that I check the performance settings and increase memory usage. This is set to 91%. However it lists available ram at 4 GB whereas the laptop contains 8 GB installed and recognized by the machine. History and cache are set to 19 and 5 respectively. I find it helpful if I reboot the machine periodically as the performance gets slower and slower as I do my editing. The editing can be use of the polygon lasso or simply the rectangle.
Can anybody help or make a suggestion please?

Hi barneytd, welcome to PSE&M!
I don't really know what is causing Elements to perform so slowly (and I am not a Mac user either). You could try these Adobe's suggestions. They may help.
