Cotton, an 18 year old Westie (West Highland White Terrier), died this year. He was affectionately called the Mayor of our neighborhood. His owner took him for walks every morning and evening. Everyone loved Cotton. i.ibb.co/MZ8Z8v6/Cotton.jpg

WOW! These are so very different and so engaging. Helen, two very different images which capture interesting scenes. I really like your creativity with the second image. Tourjim, Your dog looks like he had a inquisitive nature and I am so sorry for your loss. You have captured him beautifully. Your second image is so well done and opens up that genre for the rest of us. BillieJean, I am in awe of your creativity and these two images are beauties! Your second image is really cool, and really different! Clive, I was wondering what you would choose, and these two images are masterpieces. You have such a photographic eye for composition, lighting, nature and beauty!
This is such a fun exercise. Please do submit one or two images; they are important to you and we would love to see them!
Pat

I've picked out a couple - not so much the best but memorable for one reason or another: First from last January when the river becomes a great place for photographing wildlife and I managed to catch a Redhead duck snacking on a fish. Second from a few weeks ago - not the best of shots as the stage lighting was weird and a challenge to correct but it was taken at the local community theatre dress rehearsal of "The Trial of Ebenezer Scrooge" - their first live theatre production after over 2 years of time-out for Covid . It was good to get the camera out again for them. Tony

tonyw, you did a great job getting everyone in focus in your group shot. Would you mind sharing your lens and F-stop?

I haven't been taking many pictures these days, but, without thinking about it too much, I really like this image of our new(ish) member of the family, Sammy. We were staying at the coast for my birthday this past October. I have to say, most every moment is a Kodak moment with a Corgi!

tonyw , you did a great job getting everyone in focus in your group shot. Would you mind sharing your lens and F-stop? That group shot was taken at ISO 6400 1/80 sec f7 with an 18-135mm lens at 40 mm (60mm equiv. for a full-frame) . I was focused on the second row which gave enough depth of field to have everyone in focus. The key was having an expert (one of the stage managers who is also a photographer) organize everyone so they were all visible in as small a space as possible (and leaving a spot so she would appear in the final photo!) Thanks, Tony. Group shots are always a challenge and my family is not that large of a group. I only have the on camera flash for my little Sony. I need to think more about how to arrange them and make sure my shutter speed is fast enough. Hoping for a Christmas photo.

Tony, awesome capture of the duck and GREAT group photo! Tom, lovely portrait of Sammy - the colors are vibrant and you've really captured the feel of the coast. kdcintx, Cotton does look like he runs the town! Pets are not really pets are they? ...they are human and we miss them.....

Pat Thanks for the thread. Looking back it made me realize that I am stuck in a rut. I have been shooting the same things for most of the year. Time for a change. Here are two of my favorites. The first is a snow covered stream that flows under a walking bridge on a rail-trail. What I like about the image is that I was able to used an implied triangle in the composition. That triangle enclosed the subject and with a little luck two walkers happen to cross the bridge and one of them wore a eye-catching red jacket. The second image is from a rainy day at the Farmers’ Market. The vendor had at least two red tents covering their flowers and produce. The color red grabs a viewer’s attention and in this scene there is plenty of red. One thing that stand out to me is the red reflection in the standing rain water. That reflection acts as a leading line. As a side note, I read that because women have 2 X chromosomes, they see red at twice the volumes men. So women is this red over whelming? Just re-read my comments and now realize that both images talk about red -- oh well.

Pete, these are great and your comments really helped to clarify the images! I didn't know that about red chromosomes. To me, the red really stands out in the triangle in the first image, and the red awning in the second jumps out of the image. ahahaha....I just realized that my red chromosomes may have aged out, so perhaps I am seeing like a man!

Both of these are lovely images Dandc! You've really caught the character of the horse and the sky sets of the train in the second image.

This year I tried to broaden my subjects from animals/birds to landscapes. I've chosen these two as my best for 2022. With the first I happened to notice two Fickrs on a telephone pole outside my house, so I grabbed my camera, ran outside, and was amazed to see them begin a courting dance! Of course, me being me, I couldn't just process the image, ...I had to do some artistic add-ons as well! With the second, I went to a small lake at sunrise in the fall and managed to capture this scene with the skies lighting up and a misty haze in the background. It was a true fall day!
