With the admin's approval, it would be wonderful to see what you think your two best photos or digital compositions of 2022 are? We did this last year, and it was surprisingly hard to narrow one's images down to just two.
We would love to see what all of our forum members have been working on through the year.
I can't start this thread, as I haven't decided yet!

25,000 minus 2 ...discard 24,998 photos. đ

Pretty sure one will be a longhorn beef animal....or not.

There are a lot of layouts I make that just don't fit the 'favorite' or even the 'moderately liked' category, but they still are important because they capture an event or an idea from that year. For me, getting the event down on a layout is more important than creating the perfect page. 2022 was a quiet year, so there weren't many to choose from. Here are two that whenever I look at them, they make me smile. Obviously, you can tell why this one makes me smile...From a design standpoint - it's not much because I closely followed the template - even using the 'flowers' that were part of the template. Where you see the 'flowers' on this template - you are supposed to find some flowers from your scrapbook kit and replace them with actual scrapbook graphics. I call details like these on the template 'place holders'. They were never supposed to be a part of your finished design - but often I get lazy and just end up coloring the 'place holders' I chose this one because it's the photos that make the page.  This one 'speaks to me' because it's very simple and it's more artistic in nature and I envy those who do such nice artsy pages. Plus, I'm proud of my editing of the photos. There was an ugly car in the background and cars on the highway and I didn't want that as part of my page. This was a parking lot on a busy street in front of a motel, so there was a lot of background stuff to work around. This horse sculpture was the decorative feature in the front of the motel. In the County, there are horse sculptures all over. It was part of a artistic movement around 20 or so years ago - they are all decorated differently, however, I like this one because they colored him to look like an actual horse.The border was made from a font - I was desperate to 'fill space' and creating or using a border is another of my 'default' design choices. I like the painting supplies graphics - sometimes things just fit your theme and these certainly do.  When I look back, I often want to 'fix' things on an older design. I don't do that because with digital scrapbooking, nothing is really ever done - it can always be 'improved' - just to realize later, your improvement ruined the original. LOL |

I sometimes find that the memories attached to an image, the ability to finally achieve a skill that I have been working on, or some other reason might influence the images I will choose to share. |

Janice, love the stories behind your great layouts - it is so helpful to understand how the image was composed and the thought that goes into it.
Tony thanks for thinking of looking at last year's images and for providing the link.
...and Clive, you DEFINITELY will have a hard time choosing from your many great images, but I do look forward to seeing what you think are your best.

This was harder than I thought. I am proud of a couple of my scrapbook pages that I created, some ICM pics, a couple of "dead flower" pics that seemed to be a theme for me this year and a few others. However, I am going with these two. Sadly I must have inadvertently deleted this one as it had the dreaded ! in LR and was nowhere to be found. This is a screenshot. I just thought the snow added to the beauty of this old house......  I got a little creative with the editing of this image and like the way it came out.  |

Helen, I'm not sure if that's the house I'm thinking of, but it might be my favorite in your neighborhood! Your creativity really works on the other photo. It's very serene. Beautiful!

Just realized the bottom example in my above post was from 2021 - so I found this one I like because of the design (and of course, the subject matter - still wonder what happened to her) This has been posted before - it's the use of two different templates to accommodate extra photos that make it a favorite. I did not do much to the templates - just colored the strips and found a background paper with texture. The photos do the rest of the work. The hardest part of my designing in 2022 was figuring out how to work the logo into the page - so it didn't stick out. Last year's logo was so much better - it was just a cat - who seemed to fit in any design. This framed cat turned out to be difficult to use, but halfway through the year I realized, I was stuck with it.  |

I had forgotten about this thread from last year. It was nice looking through it again to see the various contributions. For my choices this year I have chosen the following...
First choice because as I think I have mentioned before, I have always wanted to be able to draw but canât so this sketch technique allowed me the opportunity to kid myself on that I could...also I found the 3D aspect of it intriguing and I had a lot of fun composing the page. I have to thank Jim tourerjim for introducing me to the subject of 3D art in the first place in his thread called Mastering 3D Art. I extracted the image of the bike from a photo and ran a black and white photo sketch action to get the sketch effect.
I used an image from Rawpixel to provide the desk and for wallpaper I used a paper from a kit called âEmilyâs Locketâ by G&T Designs.
The drawing paper and hand is from HiClipart. I altered the paper to the shape I needed.
I used some Pencilmark brushes by stuffwemake from Brusheezy to create the pencil marks and shadows under the bike. Itâs not perfect but it was fun.
My second choice reflects my love of masking - both blending and clipping masks.

I took a lot of good (to me) wildlife and "scenic" photos many of which would have gone into a 2023 calendar had I decided to make a calendar .. but I decided not to. I did a quick check of my 2022 folders and by year end, I will have taken over 40,000 photos this year. Now, before you have me committed, I use burst shooting (at up to 10 frames per second) a lot when shooting wildlife especially birds....particularly flying birds. So cut me some slack, eh?  Another factor is that I use photography to keep me physically and mentally active. A perfect day is walking for a couple of hours and seeing lots of things to photograph and then spending the evening editing the day's pictures. If the weather is bad I might go two or three days without taking a single photo, but that is rare. These two are special to me.... The longhorn steer has a nice "old timey" ( Home on the Range) feel to it. The head is almost dead center which is usually a composition no-no, but the other features support the composition. The warm, late-day light is pleasing; the image is in quarters (or thirds); the DOF is good. This photo makes me happy. The sunset-light-on-tree photo is special for a lot of reasons. For me personally, it was a magical moment. Although fleeting (lasting a few minutes), I took the time to not take photos and just stood on the shore and took it in. The lighting in this photo is as it was. A bad storm had past just before and a sliver of clear sky to the west (behind me) allowed the warm sunlight to wash the land in "golden hour" light. The dark sky and water are perfectly complementary to the trees. I will remember this forever.   |
