I have Win. 8.1 and a couple months or more ago I reserved Win. 10 when it became available. Lately, at least once or twice a week I get the small box notification asking me to install it now but I've heard that it's best to wait a few months to be sure the bugs and glitches have been ironed out of it, and I believe I can wait for up to a year and still upload it free. Have any of you installed Win. 10 yet from a Win. 7 or 8.1 computer? How is it working? Also, if I install Win 10 will it automatically delete all of my photos on this 8.1 PC?

Jim, I upgraded from Win8.1 on my laptop within a few days of Win10 being released. I have had no issues whatsoever with programs and apps running on it (touch wood) and absolutely love it thus far. One thing I did notice after the upgrade was that the old version of windows is still maintained on your computer should you decide you want to roll back. It is a real space hog, on my laptop it was occupying 37gb on the hard disk. I discovered it can be deleted with the built in utility, cleanmgr. Once I was satisfied that I would not be rolling back to Win8 I used it to delete it. Oh, by the way I didn't loose any files when I upgraded to Win10.
Obviously I can only speak from my personal experience, perhaps others who have upgraded can tell of theirs.

Also, if I install Win 10 will it automatically delete all of my photos on this 8.1 PC? I haven't upgraded to Windows 10 yet but I can answer this question. If you install Win 10 via the upgrade option then all your files should be left alone. Only system/OS files will be upgraded. If you install via a fresh/clean install then your entire hard disk, including all your data files, is wiped clean and a fresh installation of Win 10 is installed. To be safe so that you can go back to Win 8.1, for any reason, creating a disk image and boot disk is the best way to go imo.

Uploaded from win 7 to win 10 2 days ago. I was shocked how easy the conversion was. Everything works as well now as with win 7. No glitches yet but I trust in Gates and cyber God that future updates will handle any problems. I did lose my printer but I will be OK when I reload the drivers. My PSE and Lightroom are alive and well.

I upgraded to windows 10 two days after it came out. Took about 1 hour and there were no hiccups during the change. Did not loose anything. Has worked perfectly since.

Thank you all for your replies. I'm encouraged now so the next time I get that little blue (or was it green?) install notify box on the lower right area of my monitor I'll probably click on it.
BTW, do you all like Win. 10 better overall than 7 or 8.1?

By "via the upgrade option" do you mean via that little blue notification box I get on my monitor every so often?

BTW, do you all like Win. 10 better overall than 7 or 8.1? I updated from 8.1 to 10 on my laptop without any problems. Everything was preserved. I don't generally use the laptop for photo editing, so I can't provide any input regarding photo software. I have Windows 7 on my desktop and don't see a reason to go to 10 (yet). I love Win 7 for a desktop. On my laptop, so far I much prefer 10 over 8.1.

But our Win. 7 PC crashed and I wanted to replace it quickly. Unfortunately, Best Buy only had PC's with 8.1 in stock.

Hi Jim. I get the blue notification pop up box every time I turn on my pc now but close it immediately as I won't be updating to windows 10 for a while yet (I like my Windows 7 ), but I recall reading somewhere that when you click that blue box to start the upgrade, it will ask you to select either the "upgrade" or "clean/fresh" installation.

Thanks Larry & Sepiana. Your comments and the two inks were helpful. I installed Win 10 an hour ago and so far, so good, plus it saved my photos, music, and documents.

Please post back how it is working, as I know other forum members are thinking about whether to make the leap.

My youngest daughter has just bought her first laptop & has had Windows 10 put on it. I am looking forward to using it & seeing how it goes for her.....might help me decide.
