In this video Colin Smith demonstrates the wire removal tool using Photoshop AI. Because I am frequently shooting images from my balcony, wires are often a problem. So I took a picture of what I saw as a complicated scene just to see how well it might work. I was really impressed with the job it did. Before  After.......while it was not perfect, it wouldn't be hard to clean up the wires it missed.  |

It's really quite amazing, tourerjim. There is a removal tool added to the beta version of PS that allows you to choose wires and cables. After that you sit back and watch PS "do its job". You can see it at work in the linked video. |

Aww right, did you do yours in PS, Helen, I did click on your link but I'm not a lover of watching youtube, friend of mine has always used PS and keeps trying to convert me but I like to think I can do as well in PSE.

How could this be done in Elements? Charles, You could use Object Removal, a new feature Adobe introduced in PSE 2020 (Guided Edit > Basics > Object Removal). It will remove anything that distracts from the main subject (including power lines). Object Removal Guided edit (Help file) Object Removal Guided Edit |

Jim and Charles,
To test out the feature I chose a very complex scene. It is not typical of the wires one might usually encounter in an image. I don’t use PE but think the suggestions made by Sepiana would probably serve you well in a more ordinary picture with electrical wires.

How could this be done in Elements? I used Helen's photo and captured the wires using the lasso tool and then used "Fill layer" (under edit) and then filled using content aware. Some areas need cleaning up with the clone tool. Worked well. I did this 2 days ago and never saved a copy. I could screenshot the steps if you wish. Clive |

How could this be done in Elements? This is how I removed the wires in Helen's photo. It's a bit fiddly but works. The screen snips insets are small. Perhaps download this image and view full size.  |

Another handy way I tend to do it is to, copy layer and nudge the bottom layer just slightly and then with top layer erase cable.

Wire removal has now progressed from Photoshop Beta to the main version and I had to give it a try along with people and other distraction removal. Here's a before and after that took just a couple of minutes. I was quite impressed:   Tony |
