Buckskin -
Just go to Mozilla.org, download and install Firefox. You will be able to import your bookmarks from Internet Explorer if you wish.

Well....., here I am on my inaugural voyage on FireFox.
Although things are not quite so quick and responsive as I had hoped, it is much better than IE.
A feature on FireFox that I had never seen on IE is a little icon that says "reader view" ; I tried that out and I can really zip through the text without all the distractions.
Maybe things will be less frustrating using FireFox.
Thanks.

Up top, on the right end of the address bar, contained within the address bar, was a little picture of an open book; when I moused over it, a balloon popped-up that explained what it was; I clicked on the little open book icon and it displayed the text only, plain black-on-white, no frills or options, just text. It was pretty cool, but I don't know why the little icon is no longer there; I may never see it again.........

According to Mozilla:
If a page is available in Reader View, the Reader View icon Reader mode will appear in the address bar.
Looks like it's a function of the website you're looking at.

Dunno. All I can go by is what Mozilla wrote.

I must say that switching to FireFox has made my visits here a lot less frustrating.
I no longer have to wait on the ads before I begin scrolling and everything loads oh so much faster.
Thanks everyone and thanks for a great source of Elements information !!!

Just a bit of mysteriously interesting information: the little open book "reader view" icon we were discussing is right now back in my address bar; this is the first time it has been there since we discussed it a couple days ago.
It's being there or not is no big deal, yet I find it puzzling why it isn't always there.
When I click "Post Reply" and the page reloads, the little icon may disappear again, not to be seen for another few days.

Reader View is a feature of Firefox (other browsers have similar functionality) that strips away the ads and other clutter from a web page and displays it in a way that makes it easier to read. It won't display on every web page because not every page can be displayed that way.

BuckSkin, I have the same problems with IE, sloooow loading, waiting for the ads to show up and not being able to change pages, open threads or scrolling until they do. I solved the problem, after trying just about everything else, by installing Firefox, which I use for this site almost exclusively. Works perfectly. Rita This is a progress report to my above post.
About 10 days ago I noticed that there was a new Cumulative Security Update for IE 11 in my WIN Update History. I reset IE 11 to Default from the Internet Options Menu. This is exactly what I had been doing after the last 3 or 4 Updates of this sort. But this time i t w o r k e d !!
I've been using IE again for this site (sort of holding my breath) . There is still an occasional delay in loading the ads, but just for a few seconds, nothing compared to what it used to be for the last several months.

Thanks for the information Rita. So far, FireFox has really helped my experiences with this site. That being said, there are a lot of things about IE that I really like/prefer over FireFox; one of them being the way IE "favorites" works; it is a whole lot better system than the FireFox bookmarks. Another really big plus to IE is the strip of pinned favorites just under the address/tab strip; I can pin a page up there and quickly bring it up again seconds or years later. However, there are several sites where FireFox just works oh so much better.

Hi Buckskin You can pin pages in Firefox too. Right click on a space at the very top of your Firefox screen and put a check next to 'Bookmarks Toolbar' you will see it appear below the Search/Address bar. To pin something to it all you need do is drag the tab for the particular site you want and drop it on the Toolbar and to get rid of it all you need do is drag it off again. I find it very handy.
