I learned recently about a fantastic app that I have downloaded for my Canon EOS 60D camera. Sorry folks but this app only works with some Canon EOS cameras, no other brand at this time. DSLR Controller at dslrcontroller.com but from what I have seen I do love it, but found it is a little finicky not all functions working all the time. It does cost $7.99 I just bought and tonight received the Google Nexus Tablet 9 (8.9 inch, 32GB) to use with the app. I have the app on my smart phone, but wanted a much larger screen to work with. One of the features I learned it has is remote focus of the lens. The is fantastic especially when using my Sigma 150-500 zoom lens. Before if I needed to fine tune the focus, with the lens zoomed all the way at 500mm, then using live view and zooming in even more (digitally with the camera) when I would manually turn the focus ring very gently and very slowly, the picture would bounce and shake dramatically. Now with this app I can by remote control pushing a button on the screen of my tablet (or phone) the lens focuses in and out with out me touching the lens!!!!!! I have not used the app very much yet, just had it a few days, and just got the Nexus 9 today. What I have been trying to do is search the net for a pdf user manual for my Nexus 9. but so far I have not found anything. What am I doing wrong? I get anything and everything, but nothing for the Nexus 9 tablet. I want a PDF file I can download. Oh for the old days when a manual was included with everything we purchased!!!! Thank you all

Oh for the old days when a manual was included with everything we purchased!!!! Ha! I was just going through old, old boxes and found documentation that came with my first computer. It contained the hardware schematics and source code for every bit of code on it! Those were such wondereous, heady days! Nothing was hidden, and everyone wanted to share everything!

I have discovered something with my new Nexus 9... I plugged it in a few hours ago to let it charge up first, THEN I turned it on which took awhile to go thru all the steps, and the upgrading of software.
Now it is downloading EVERY app I have on my phone! I did not know it would do that!!
The problem with that is I don't feel I can really play with it that much until it is done. It is getting late so maybe I can get to bed sooner than normal.. After waking up hopefully by then everything will be loaded including the DSLR Controller app I bought the Nexus 9 to use it for.

Good luck with your new toy, Charles! 7.99 seems like a bargain! Those tablets are pretty self explaining. If you search on Youtube for Nexus 9, I'm sure you'll find something of interest!

There are a few sites which offer such PDF manuals but they all say the manual for the Nexus 9 is "coming soon".
If you are in a hurry, it looks like your best bet is to use the Nexus Help Center and/or the Nexus forum.

Hi Charles.....
Manuals are pretty much a thing of the past. I think that manufacturers don't really want you to know what it can do just in case you find it can't :-)
Pretty much a case of Plug and Pray these days.
Google issued an update a short while ago which while small in itself required all the apps to be updated which took a long time.
BTW: I have 'dsrlcontroller' on my Nexus 7. A great app.
Take a look at the Nexus Media Importer app. You need an On the Go USB Cable but once you have this you can connect lots of different usb devices to your tablet. For example a USB Memory Stick, a card reader or an external hard drive - although you'd need a seperate PSU for this.

Hi Colin! You changed your screen name!!! I have been finding manuals are harder to come by these days, but I always try to see if there is anything available. I am glad to hear you are also a DSLR Controller user! I learned there is another app supposed to be similar qDSLR Dashboard that is FREE that some people like. I may try it, don't know yet as I really have not had a chance yet to try DSLR Controller. I have the MicroUSB cable (On The Go USB Cable) but never thought of hooking up an SD card, that would be pretty easy! And a hard drive? What is the PSU you mention? It must be a power supply? I just now downloaded Nexus Media Importer. Thanks for the heads up... just have to learn how to use it but I am guessing it will be self explanatory Thank you

Hi Charles...
Yup, new site new name :-) Still learning how to use it and I'm not getting my email notifications yet, nor can I find the smilies!
PSU = Power Supply Unit. Some smaller hard drives are capable of being powered via the Usb data cable. Some larger ones can't because they need more power. Tablets don't generally provide much power on the USB connector so a seperate supply is needed.

Charles..... Sorry, can't help you with the PSU as its not something I wanted to do. Have a search on the net but make sure you get one that fits the connector of the HDD. I have used USB memory sticks to increase the storage capability but did run into some problems that I need to watch carefully. I was downloading images from my card reader to the Nexus 7 with a view to then moving them to the USB mem stick. Unfortunately not all of the images came across from the camera and as I'd filled the camera memory card I deleted all the images on it. I managed to get some back but not all, so now I carefully check that all the images made it across first....which I always do on the workstation You can also get USB Memory Sticks that are OTG compatible and plug in directly to the tablet, so no cable - www.mymemory.co.uk/OTG-Micro-USB/SanDisk/SanDisk-64GB-Ultra-Dual-OTG-Micro-USB-Flash-DriveI don't use a screen protector but do use an old lens cleaning micro-fibre cleaning cloth to just wipe over the surface.
