I can empathise with both of you on this issue as I was having similar probs running v2.0.0. In the end I set Impression to run exclusively with my dedicated nVidia graphics card as opposed to the built in Intel graphics. Along with upgrading to v2.0.1 it made all the difference in the world and is now running fine and fast. Before I update beyond v2.0.01 I will wait to see how many version iterations it takes to fix all of the current issues with Impression.

I also have a dedicated nVidia graphics card in both of my computers (including a brand new one). The OpenGL support is far beyond the minimum support required by Impression 2.0.3. Also, my nVidia cards are in the list of "recommended" ones by Topaz. I sincerely doubt the problem lies with my graphics card. When I had a similar problem with Texture Effects, all Topaz had to do was e-mail me a .bat file and the problem got solved. As a matter of fact, I tried Impression on my tablet (with a different graphics card) and it was the same problem. So, everything seems to point towards the problem being on their end.
Impression 2.0.3 runs just fine (standalone and plug-in) when I launch the standalone version as an administrator and/or launch its hosting programs as administrator. This proves it is not a graphics card-related problem.

n the end I set Impression to run exclusively with my dedicated nVidia graphics card as opposed to the built in Intel graphics. I'm curious as to how you set Impression to use just the nVidia graphics card. I didn't believe it was an option to have a program use one graphics card vs another.

I'm curious as to how you set Impression to use just the nVidia graphics card. I didn't believe it was an option to have a program use one graphics card vs another. Assuming you have more than 1 GPU these steps should work in a Windows environment (I have Win10): 1. right click on the desktop icon for the program (eg. Impression2, PSE) that you want to change the GPU (a menu will be displayed) 2. highlight 'Run with graphics processor' (a flyout menu will be displayed) 3. Click the option 'Change default graphics processor (in my case the NVidia control panel opened) 4. Click on Program Settings tab in right hand panel 5. in the 'Select a program to customise' section click on the ADD button (an add interface will be displayed) 6. If you don't see the program in the default list click on the browse button and navigate to the program executable manually (the path I used was C:\Program Files\Topaz Labs\Topaz Impression 2\tlimpression2.exe) 7. Click 'open button' 8. Click on down arrow in the 'Select preferred graphics processor for this program' section to choose desired GPU 9. save changes on exit from graphics control panel

Thanks Sydney - I never knew that. I still didn't see that option and did some more searching. Apparently it is not available on a desktop (my primary machine), and I don't see it on my laptop because it doesn't have a dedicated video card

Rita,
Good news! Problem solved (and I didn't even have to contact Topaz Labs). Yesterday I did a fresh download of Topaz Impressions 2. This time both the standalone version and the plug-in are working flawlessly. Hope a new download will work for you as well! Keeping my fingers crossed.

Sepiana,
that's good news, indeed. Thanks for letting me know. I'll give it another try later today.

Sepiana, it didn't work for me. I first deleted all files to do with the previous installations, then installed v2.0.3 Tried from PS and free-standing and also as Administrator.
Everything is exactly as it was with both previous versions. The presets are in the Program Files and the App Data where they belong, but do not show in the filter. This is what the representative seemed to consider the only thing necessary. When I finally convinced him with screenshots that it was all there, he had no idea what was wrong. That's why he wanted to look at my computer, but I think I have wasted enough time on this. I'll give it a rest. Maybe they'll figure it out by version 2.0.4

Rita,
I am so sorry to hear that. I can understand your frustration but I would suggest you let the Topaz tech access your computer. I had a similar problem with another Topaz plug-in some time ago. The tech guy tried everything under the sun and nothing. Then, he accessed my computer and found the culprit. It was a corrupted file. He replaced it and all was well.

It can scan and clean your registry. You can run it and if you don't want to accept all the suggestions, highlight only those related to Topaz. I often do this when I have installation issues and it has helped on some occasions.

sargenta1, thanks for the tip. I don't like to mess with the Registry, even with the help of CCleaner, but the tech-ish son of friends of mine sometimes does such things for me. I'll tell him about your advice when I get a hold of him.
