So, just got PSE15 installed. Associated PSD files with the program. PSD files load fine from within the program, but when I try to double-click on a PSD file in Windows Explorer, I get a PSE15 has stopped working message.
Can anyone confirm this, or guess what's wrong?

Craig,
A very long shot in the dark . . .
Right-click on the PSD file and select Open with. What do you see listed as an option? Photoshop Elements 15 Editor or Photoshop Elements 15?

Did you do a reboot after the install?

Hopefully someone can come to the rescue with an answer for this problem. I am flying blind here!!!
You could use the Event Viewer log to try to pinpoint the culprit, i.e., the faulty module. Photoshop Elements Editor Help / How to Find Crash Logs on Windows
As a side note -- Someone reported a problem with Elements 15 crashing at start-up on the Adobe Photoshop Element forums. The solution was provided via Adobe Chat. The Adobe tech accessed his computer remotely, found the "problem" file, replaced it, and the problem was gone.

Thanks, Sepiana, but I'm not savvy enough to decipher the events log.

Thanks, Sepiana, but I'm not savvy enough to decipher the events log. Craig, I am not savvy either. If we can't find the solution here, you could post in the Adobe Photoshop Elements forum or on the Adobe Feedback forum and attach a screen shot of the Events Log. As a matter of fact, there is a good chance that they will ask for this log. It may be a good idea; it will save you time and some potential aggravation with the troubleshooting.

I would expect the PSE installer to take care of all the file associations, so if you set the filetype association yourself manually that makes me wonder. Did you, and if so was it because you found the association hadn't been done?

I'm not savvy enough to decipher the events log. Take a look at the link Sepiana provided. I think you will find that the Event Viewer program makes it quite painless to see what was recorded in the log file. If you cut & paste the entry here someone might be able to decipher it.

Did you, and if so was it because you found the association hadn't been done? Yes it does, but not if you have multiple versions of PSE installed as I do. I my case, the PSD files were associated with PSE14, so I changed that to PSE15/

Nevermind, all. Fixed. Had to do with some anti-malware software on my system. Thanks for all the suggestions.

Got it. Just to be clear, for Windows 7, you go into the control panel and click Default Programs, yes? From there you can set up individual filetype associations by clicking Associate a file type or protocol with a program. There is also the Set your default programs choice; it will associate every file type understood by PSE15 with PSE15. Which method did you use?
