Not sure if this was already posted - but I recently noticed that ON1 has made their full-function version of ON1 Effects 10.5 free. You can find the program info, and download link at --> www.on1.com/products/effects10/Enjoy! Dan

Do you require to uninstall a previous free version before installing this version. If so can anyone tell me the proper way to uninstall ON 1 Effects...when I try, I get a pop up saying to de-activate my product and disable virus protection before uninstalling. I can't find how to de-activate the product.

BillieJean,
I am not familiar with the installation of the single ON1 Effects module (for purchase or free). I have always purchased the suite. When you install the suite, you are asked if you want to keep the previous version or if you just want the latest version. I am not sure this will apply in this case. Give it a try! Don't uninstall the previous free version. Just run the installer for this new free version. If the installer doesn't give you the same option as for the suite, just follow these instructions.
Uninstall the ON1 software products.

Well that’s it installed. When installing you get a dialogue box with two radio buttons - asking if you want to Leave the older version behind - or Only want the new stuff.
I chose the second option as I thought that meant the older version would be removed but it seems I have both versions now and they both work independently of each other. I think I’ll just leave it at that as I don’t want to upset anything and I don’t think they take up a lot of room on my hard drive.

Maybe because the version you had before was the one which was always free (the one with a limited number of functions)? The one which is now free is the full-featured one. I have always gone from purchased to purchased version. I have always chosen the second option and the only version which remains installed is the latest one. I even check the Registry to make sure the older version is gone and it is. The only thing remaining will be the third-party presets I had installed in the previous version; they will get automatically transferred to the new one.

I'm not certain that a free version actually requires deactivation ... here's how just in case There was no deactivation option available to me. So after a bit of thought I decided to try again to uninstall the old version and with fingers crossed I ignored the popup message I mentioned previously and all went well. I now have just the new version installed and I’m glad to say working. Thanks to both Sepiana and Peterj for trying to help.

Thanks for the tip off on this one Dan I have just downloaded it and, after a quick perusal, like what I see.

Thanks, Dan; I just downloaded while the price was within my meager means; thanks again.
I saw no mention as to how or where the license key/code will be found, or is one necessary (I have to have one for my free full-version PPE 9.5) ?

Okay, I got it installed and ran into a road-block : I don't figure to allow access, but am curious as to why they would need it; what features require access through my firewall ? Thanks for reading.

"Internet connection for activation, auto update checking, content downloads and tutorials."
You should be able to allow access for the installation and verification portion, then remove the access.

I just clicked the red X and the firewall warning went away; I made a few practice runs and everything seems to be up and running. Yet, at no time have I been requested to enter a license code, nor have I been e-mailed one; does this package just not require such ? When I installed the free full version of Perfect Effects 9.5, and each time I have had to reinstall it, I have always been required to enter my license code before I could even load a photo; and, PPE 9.5 only allows activation on two machines at the same time. Thanks for reading.

Buckskin -
Since this is essentially just a module, I'm guessing it doesn't require a code.
