I am always interested to learn more about using textures to creatively edit my images. Thought some of you might find this article interesting. To see some inspirational photos using textures check out this flickr group from flypaper textures. After looking at some of the work posted in the group above, I came upon photomelange by Susan Weller. She offers both some free textures for download and step-by-step tutorials. It is a rainy day here, so hopefully being inspired, I'll find some time to create a textured image of my own to share. Would love to see some textured images that you might like to share! And if you are looking for some textures be sure to check out the textures on the goodies board.

I love the "afters" in all these examples. Love the way texture really adds to the photos look.

Great article Helen - thanks for sharing it with us. Funny that you should mention Flypaper textures as I was on their site last night perusing some of them. In my mind Flypaper, French Kiss and Jai Johnson's Daily Texture are some of the best in the business. Having said that I must say I was quite impressed with Susan Weller's textures and the beautiful images she has created with them.

Gave this a try this afternoon.......things I like about it and things I don't. I think this is beautiful Helen. Would you mind sharing with us the things that you don't like about it. I'm so intent on working with layers and masks these days but I will definitely give it a try as working with textures is something I tend to forget about and I know they can enhance our pages.

I used two of Susan Weller's photomelange textures. Nov '14 as the BG and pm-03-0.jpg blended with the photo. Blend modes shown on the page. I love how the different blend modes can give a different mood to the photo. Photo from morguefile. Click to see larger image.

Lillias, I don't like my original starting image.......while the flowers look fine on my table......the arrangement didn't look pleasing on the computer. I had already put everything back where it belonged and was too lazy to get it out again and take another picture, so tried copying and pasting flowers to cover some of the leaves. In essence trying to make a bad picture better......think that breaks rule no. 1 for using textures! Sydney.....your starting flower is a beauty and I like the color you chose for your texture! Lillias....great example....each blend mode changes the mood of the ship image.....like each one of them. I will have to go back and try this again.....not sure if it will be today but before the end of the week.

I have never really explored the use of textures and romantic images are not my strong suite, but I'm beginning to wonder if I'm missing something. This is one of the Susan Weller freebees and my first try ever to design an image specifically for the use of a texture. I'm sure BillieJean could do it better

ritage.....I never really thought of textured images as "romantic" but can see why your would say that. Once added they do change the "feel" of an image.....and often suggest a time in the past or a sense of serenity. I am always so impressed the way you use the tool in PE to create an image from "scratch". I think if you have the time to explore textures you will find them as another resource for your creations.

It doesn't look like Rita deleted anything. Here is a screenshot of her post. The image is there.
