I know, I know, I have asked this before and I promise I will write it down this time. How do I create what would look like an unfinished painting? I know it must be done with masking or something similar. Here's an example of one I have done before. Thank you!!!!

BTW.. I think it's good to ask again. We will get a lot of advise and knowledge into the new forum that way.

Also, if you're a member over at PET, take a look at these two videos by Dave Cross: Reusable Border EffectsReusable Border Effects Part 2Unfortunately the original Painted Edges video from PET has done a disappearing act (I think we had some correspondence about that at EV a couple of months ago) but the basic tutorial is the same - New layer filled with white (or whatever colour you prefer) beneath your photo, add a layer mask to your photo, fill layer mask with black, then with the layer mask active, paint with white using brush of your choice to reveal image and create nice edges. Hi blackmutt, it seems that both of your images have an error in their BBCode, because when I click on them something unexpected happens.
It looks like you used the Upload via postimage.org button, yes? After clicking it, you need to click on Browse... and navigate to your image on your harddisk. After doing that all you need to do is click the Upload it! button. Do you recall if that is the exact sequence of steps that you used?

I'm wondering if it may have something to do with the size of the image that Blackmutt is uploading. I've just been experimenting and if the image is smaller and no resizing has been done then when I click on the thumbnail it doesn't display properly: But when I resize it....(I know it's blurry, this is just for the sake of experimentation) or post a bigger starter image... then it does. Yes, just to confirm, the first image of yours, Bayla, opens to a postimage.org page but the other two open to show an enlarged version of the image. Would seem like you've cracked it Well done J

Hi Bayla, In looking at your test image posts, I see references to "pinterest"; can you tell me the exact steps you followed to post these images? That may yield some insights.
One question I have is are you uploading the images from your computer, or using the Web option in the postimage dialog? I have been assuming everyone has used the upload from computer. If not, please post the exact URL in your reply. You will need to use the Code button (fourth from the right) so it doesn't get modified or acted on.

Tom,
Where are you seeing Pinterest?
All I do is click on the Upload via postimage.org button, then make sure Computer is selected, click on Browse, navigate to where the pictures are stored on my computer and then click on Upload it! The only difference between those three test images was that I changed the size to see if my 'size theory' was correct. Normally I don't bother.

If you edit your post, then click the BBCode tab, you should see the references to pinterest that I mentioned. Please let me know if you see that. And just to be clear, when you say you changed the size, do you mean you used Elements to create different sized images, or do you mean something else? EDIT: never mind, I see that it is the avatar and thumbnail sizes that are causing the problem. Thanks for the lead Bayla! I still don't understand about the pinterest references, but that is not causing the problem.

Tom, I see what you mean. I wonder why? I sometimes look at Pinterest on my computer, but none of my pictures are linked to it and I've never posted any of my own pictures there. Interestingly though, when I clicked on the Quote button to quote you and went to BBCode to delete bits, I noticed that the Pinterest thing was there tacked on to the end of your quote as well! And just to be clear, when you say you changed the size, do you mean you used Elements to create different sized images, or do you mean something else? I was referring to the option on postimage.org to resize your image. On my test images though I deliberately resized the first very small one in Elements before posting. The second one I resized in postimage.org and the third one was the original saved to my computer. Bayla

The mystery seems to be understood now. The issue is with the Upload via postimage.org plugin. It generates an incorrect command if the avatar or thumbnail sizes are selected. FYI: the resize refers to the size of the image that will be displayed when the thumbnail in your post is clicked, not the size of the thumbnail itself. The 15 inch monitor choice works well for me.

Tom, But when I replicated the problem I didn't select avatar or thumbnail - I left it as ' Do not resize my image' but deliberately resized my image to something smaller in PSE. Bayla
