Thanks to everyone who participated in this challenge. It was very interesting to see the different ideas people had for editing this image and difficult to select my favorites! However, here are my three runner-ups in the order they were submitted: Good use of motion blur and dramatic color..... preview.ibb.co/dh2JFU/seascape_Edit.jpg by kdcintx There was a timeless old world feel that Lillias gave this image by Lillias  I liked the explanation Michel gave as to how he wanted his edit to bring out the peacefulness of the scene and I think his black and white submission did just that. by michelb  Finally I chose this image by Bailey as my winner for this challenge: image.ibb.co/gVc7ep/F8_A8324_real.jpgThe overall color palette and luminosity of this edit reminded me of why I love to take these long exposures at sunset. With the sun going down in the opposite direction the afterglow that can appear over the beach keeps drawing me to this location not far from my home. Again thanks to everyone who participated in the challenge. If you would like to submit an image for a future challenge, please PM me. It's fun to see the different visions people can have for the same image! I should explain that what may appear to be the sun is actually the moon rising......... |

Thank you hmca for running this challenge and for the thought provoking starter image  .
Well done to everyone who participated. It would have been an extremely difficult task, for me at least, to choose a favourite. There are some really wonderful "arty" interpretations and ideas in the submitted images. Kdcintx's image inspired me to have a dabble with a couple of "art" type interpretations, which is not my strong suit.
I then thought I may as well go back to my comfort zone and submit an attempt to produce an image with natural looking colours and tones using the processing described in the image's post earlier. Not being there when hmca took the photo, hopefully the image is close to what she saw.
This was a fun challenge and hopefully there will be more.

I suspect, in hindsight now, that hmca not mentioning the "sun" is actually the moon might have been a deliberate test to see if anyone picked it up.
To me, it looks like no-one did although I did initially wonder for a few seconds why the sun is not much brighter and blown out like it normally is in photos. However it still never dawned on me that it might actually be the moon as I put the lack of brightness down to the clouds partially in front of the sun/moon (oh dear  ). Again with the benefit of 20/20 hindsight, if it was the sun then I would have expected the underside of the clouds to have reddishi/orange tones. In any case I doubt very much I would have done anything significantly different.
Thank you again hmca and a very nice subliminal "test/mind game" if indeed that was your intention .

No problem hmca and my apologies for implying you might have tried to fool us. It certainly wasn't my intention.
The coast lines within short driving distances from home all face west (I live on the east side of Port Phillip Bay) and so it becomes second nature to see the sun and not the moon on the horizon over water. It never dawned on me that in other parts of the world it could be the reverse - perhaps I was having another senior's moment  .
Again my apologies.
