In my old PSE 11 panos were a charm and the images almost always stitched seamlessly. The Photomerge feature under "Enhance" was removed a few versions ago and it is now done in Guided vs Expert. Prior to 2018 my images always merged well with variations in exposures being nicely blended. (See bottom image merged in PSE 11.) But following the process with two images this morning in PSE 2018, the two layers did not blend well. (I followed directions in a YouTube video and "merged" the layers as directed.) Perhaps there is just too much variation in the two images used, but it worked in PSE 11. Was not using a polarizer for these and shooting in M mode is is necessary when take image to be used in a pano. It is likely I am not doing something right. Ya think? Suggestions regarding panos in 2018 are welcome. Thanks, Clive

Tried a new set in 2018 vs 11 ... five-shots. Top image is a gif showing the differences in stitching. This is a bit bothersome. I can always use PSE 11 for panos, but it's disappointing that 2018 doesn't do a better job. Anyone else? Thanks, Clive

One would think that with each successive generation of PSE that things would only get better, but that is shocking that the results are so much better in PSE11 vs 2018. I am using PSE15, so can't really offer suggestions. I'm sure someone will be able to step up to the plate though. I love your landscape pano with the rainbow - awesome!

Hi Clive, I am using PSE 14 and in the Settings of Photomerge Panorama there is a setting "Blend images together". Have you got it checked/ticked? Also, I am a little confused because you say - and that you shoot in Manual mode. When shooting panos you must have the same aperture, shutter speed and ISO for each shot which will not result in variations in exposure as you describe. The brightness might obviously vary across the shots, but not the exposure. Even though you shot in Manual mode, are you sure you used the same aperture, shutter speed and ISO for each shot?

ven though you shot in Manual mode, are you sure you used the same aperture, shutter speed and ISO for each shot? Yes, in M mode nothing changes, which is whole purpose of using M mode. I never use the P, A or S, A modes ... for any photos. Only M. In any case, the blending/stitching works in PSE 11 but not so well in 2018.

I've not always been perfect with my panos, and 2018 seemed to give me more fits than I really wanted. Take my suggestion with a grain of salt ... try a free app from Microsoft - ICE [image composite editor]
I've found this app to be superior to both PSE 18 and On1 Photo Raw
I'll gladly give it a try if you desire!

Thanks Peter, I have ICE and it works great. The neat thing about ICE is that it will stitch a grid of photos, i.e. a set of pics taken in rows back and forth at various levels ... a rectangular matrix of images. VERY cool. Thanks Clive Gave it a go ... worked well.

In any case, the blending/stitching works in PSE 11 but not so well in 2018. Clive,
There have been reports on the Adobe forums about panorama blending/stitching not working as it should in PSE 2018. Furthermore, problems have also been reported in the 2018 versions of Photoshop CC and Lightroom Classic CC. Two possible culprits have been suggested -- permission levels and/or a corrupted Preferences file.
See if you are encountering a case of permission levels. Try this.
- Run PSE 2018 as administrator. - Create your panorama. - If you see no problems, close PSE 2018. - Open PSE 2018 but this time do it as a standard user. - Create your panorama.
If the problem persists, try deleting the Preferences file.

No problem Clive
Believe it or not, many people do actually change the exposure settings while in M mode and taking panoramas and then wonder why they have problems stitching.
Did you check if "Blending Images Together" is checked/ticked as I suggested earlier? (just eliminating possibilities for your issue )

Thanks Clive Gave it a go ... worked well. I've added ICE to my normal pano work flow which starts with On1; then ICE if needed - I choose not to trouble shoot PSE18 as ICE works whenever On1 doesn't.

Did you check if "Blending Images Together" is checked/ticked as I suggested earlier? I followed the instructions. When the image opens in "Expert" mode there are several layers. By right clicking a drop down menu appears and one of them is "blend" layers.

Sepiana Thanks for this. I do not know how to "run as administrator" and I am dangerous messing with background stuff. I'll snoop around and see if I can do this without do damage. Appreciate your vast knowledge. Thanks Clive

I've become a big fan of ICE even though I have multiple programs that will stitch panos. ICE is fast, offers a lot more projection options than other programs and will even do 360° Little Planets. I quite often break the rules and shoot panos Hand-held in Aperture priority where there's a significant exposure difference between one end and the other and ICE seems to handle it just fine.

Sepiana Thanks for this. I do not know how to "run as administrator" . . . Clive,
- Right-click on the PSE 2018 shortcut. - Select "Run as administrator" from the menu.
