Here is a fun video tutorial in which you will create a christmas card entirely within Elements (I hope it is not too late to enjoy this one, and there is still time to make a New Year card). It uses layers, gradients, text, graphics and styles in creative ways. Even if you are familiar with these tools it is fun to revisit them and refresh their usage. The method used to create the candy cane text is very clever! Once you have been through it I'm guessing you will want to add some embellishments and take it to the next level!

Thanks for the video. It had all the components of one of my first PSE Christmas cards. Up until then, I was using greeting card software, but wanted to learn something new and so I bought Photoshop Elements 4. Wow - PSE4 had quite a learning curve. As you can see, my card has bevel and texture and gradients ... To make text that looks like this - group your text ( Control/Command G) with a patterned design or photo - A thick font works the best. Use bevel to make it look like it's etched. I believe the text in this example was merged with the wall in the photo.

Very clever how he made the candy cane text with the halftone filter. Don't know how people figure out with these ideas, but I'm always glad to learn something new.

cats4jan , thank you for sharing your christmas card! I really like that sandstone texture. There is such a learning curve that it just never stops, which is quite wonderful really. Like the brush blend modes; who knew?!

I really like that sandstone texture. Don't get started on the textures offered in PSE - you might not stop. LOL

Very easy way to make striped text. I never tried changing sketch settings - now I'm off to try some new things with sketch.

I did just the part about the candy cane letters - learn something new all the time!!!
Yep, I agree. There are so very many features in PSE that I need these exercises to remember what I "know"!

LOL, understood Rita! I was worried it was a bit past its "sell by" date, but I'm glad you were able to get something out of it.
