hmmmmm......looks like to create a "planet" effect you need the right type of image, having something like water or a fairly uniform texture in the bottom half of the image (which is what is in the original tute). My starter image in this attempt doesn't have that.

What I meant was that to create the true "planet" effect as described in the tutorial posted by Tpgettys, it looks like you need an image with fairly uniform content in the lower half in order to create the circular "core" for the "planet" effect.
If you use a different type of starter image you can still get some amazing results but I don't see a "planet" in some of them.
This technique is a fun one to play with on different types of images.
