Photoshop CC work around: 1. Open your Image 2. Duplicate the image (CTRL/CMD+j 3. Set your color to default D 4. Select and Mask what you want to apply the effect to. Now that it is a mask you can adjust at anytime 5. Go to Filtes>Filter Gallery>Stylize Glowing Edges 6. Season to taste click ok 7. You can now adjust Opacity. Blend mode, Fill or add effects

hmca I'm glad you were able to find a way to do this in PSCC Helen. Both uploads look great. Thank you so much for taking part in the Challenge...

Thanks, Lillias. I'll have to try Frank's workaround which seems much closer to your original tut. However, as my Adobe friend has told me many times, there is more than one way to do things in PS. I'm glad that I came up with something that allowed me to get similar results.

Interesting creative challenge - I don't think I'd ever played with the smart brush before (in PSE13) and I found you can apply it multiple times, change from one effect to another on a given layer and add adjustment layers as well as changing blend modes and opacities. Here's what I finished up with while playing around - not quite what I intended but it was fun messing around: Before: After: Layers: Thanks Lillias - I'm going to have to play some more! Tony

Lillias, I re-set my Preferences and now it works. Don't know why I didn't think of that earlier, but I never had to do it before.

I quickly tried Frank's workaround but after seeing Tony's I may need to try some other filters.

I’m really impressed at all the interpretations using the Smart Brush Tool.
PeteB the way you have used it really puts the emphasis on the man and his parrot.
Tony – you have taken this to another level entirely. Love your result on the flower. It looks like it’s made of tissue paper now. Gorgeous. Can I ask you as regards the Impressionista 1 layer is that a filter/gradient in PSE because I can’t find it.
Rita I’m so happy you sussed what the problem was and I love your results on that wall.
Helen I think I preferred your first one but it’s always good to try different methods.
Keep them coming folks these are great.

I found Impressionista as one of the Smart Brush presets - it's under Special Effects. I've never seen it before either. I also just discovered that if you apply it and then double click the thumbnail it opens up a Posterize box that lets you adjust it and I rather like the result. More things to play with! Tony

I second that! Used Frank's method and then tried a variety of filters in the filter gallery. Looks like you have gotten our creative juices flowing, Lillias. Looking at it I think I should have blurred the edges a bit to make the house blend in better.

Nice one Rita. Yes it's from Pixabay and is one of my favourite images.

One more. Smart Brush Pencil Sketch and selected the cottage. Levels adjustment to increase the contrast in the sketch, Sepia Tone to change the B&W sketch to sepia and finally tweaked the combined image in Adjust AI as I was playing with it (I used a dark mood preset) Tony
