Your texture is a perfect match with the tones in the flower, Judy.

Apples with a watercolor attempt. I tried the watercolor action from Adobe with used to work for me but it now hangs up about three quarters the way through so I had to improvise. i.ibb.co/PtmdbJg/DSC-0190-Edit-2.jpg

This is an AWESOME thread! Thought I would add my otter and ask this question. How do you blend your objects into the background so that auras don't occur? I often create a background texture from the original photo using Filter Forge and then go through many experimental layers/opacities to get the look I am after. rest break by Pat Sanders, on Flickr

Do you use layer masks?

First of all congratulations on Explore, Pat! I am unsure what you mean about auras. If you are referring to a lightened area around the edges of your selection, one of the things that I have found helpful is blur the edges slightly. Occasionally I will clone some of the background texture over the edges on a separate layer and adjust the opacity. blackmutt , Lillias , or dandc might have other suggestions. I was just about to post an image when I saw your otter. I have no standard method and mostly "play" with an image until I'm happy with the results. I was inspired by Judy's dark and grungy flower to create this dark and grungy house! It looks better if you click it! Used a texture by 2lilowls......also added a layer that was edited in Topaz Impression. See that Judy commented while I was creating my post.

I do use layer masks. I have also tried Topaz' masking plug-in, but don't really like the results with hair and fur where the backgrounds don't provide good contrast for selecting hair/fur. I have also used all of Elements selection tools, but don't find they do as good a job of selecting as I would like.......so I often end up taking time to modify the selections to include whiskers/hair/fur. When my image is final, I go back over the selection I have created (i.e. for the otter) and either copy nearby tone/color to the selection ends (i.e. whiskers/fur), or, I inverse the selection and clone the background so that there is a clear line between background and selection. This is a LOT of work however, and I am looking for an easy/peasy way to select an animal or bird. Having said all that, I may also selectively graduate the animals outline into the background, or bring back some background features such as grass, logs or rocks to give the animal/bird a 'base' to stand on (so they don't look like they are floating). Clear as mud? Good grief! I even confused myself.

Have you ever watched a Jai Johnson how to video? She uses Topaz and/or ps. I know with ps you can use object selections to isolate your objects. But I am like Helen, I experiment a lot!

Yes, I clicked on your link Judy and watched the video, but she covered stuff I already knew. I have a process for selections, but was seeing if anyone here had an easier way to get rid of auras (outlines, green lines, white lines) around an object in a textured image. btw, Judy you really are an artist with your textures!
Lovely movement in your building Helen!
