NOTE: Posting this follow up in "Show your work" as that was where the original "raw" thread was posted. I am showing my raw vs jpg images.
I was inspired by preeb's post about shooting RAW. So this is a followup to the raw thread posted by preeb
I always shoot raw and done so for about 10 years, but shot jpg exclusively for a number of years before that.
Like preeb, I feel that raw gives me a bit better advantage to adjust highlights and shadows, although ACR does a fine job of adjusting jpgs as well.
These comparisons were shot with a Sony A7III full-frame mirrorless camera with the Sony 24-105MM G Series lens. The images should be viewed in imgbb to enlarge them. In all three sets the insets are 100%, i.e. cropped from the original at full 6000 by 4000 pixels. The first two sets were properly exposed and only minor levels adjustments. The last set (books) was underexposed on purpose, by close to three stops...the originals were dark. The raw was lightened in ACR and the jpg in PSE. Neither were sharpened, although the raw files undergo the standard "25" level sharpening.
So the fun thing here is to see if you can tell which was shot as raw and which was shot as jpg. They are posted randomly i.e. raw or jpg could be first or second in each set.
This first set was shot at f7.1, 1/800 second and ISO 250. There were properly exposed.
These shots of a messy shelf in my shed-office at the summer place were shot at ISO 6,400 and f7.1 and 1/320 second.
This set was underexposed on purpose and lightened in ACR and PSE. There were shot at ISO 3,200, f8 and 1/500 second.
