Nice one, Jim. I am always on the lookout for the lone tree!
Kathylee......when I read about minimalist images one of the suggestions was to create a simple but interesting composition and make use of negative space. I think both of your submissions meet that criteria. I especially like the depth you created in the torn paper image. Would you mind sharing a little about how you set up that image?

Hi, This was a challenge for Macro Monday, paper. Really a very simple set up, no real skill here!!!! I just took regular paper and started tearing it into small pieces. I set them up on a black background, actually my Ipad in a black case. Then I used my Iphone (close range) to take a picture or two or three and picked the one I liked the best. I added a bit of a vignette and then brightened the entire picture. See, I said it was going to be simple!!!! I guess I should have made up a unique and interesting, hours and hours long complex set up for more interest!!!!!!!!!!! Try it, it was fun. The toilet roll pic was also shot for the same challenge and I wound up using that shot to enter. I think it was the slight curling of the paper (just lightweight printing paper) that gave it the depth. Thank you for the interest.

Thanks for explaining how you took your picture, kathylee. Your creative approach of using a simple piece of paper resulted in an interesting abstract.

Looking for another photo, I came across these two tulips from a number of years ago that I think fit this theme well.

Not quite as pretty as those tulips and an invasive species here but this was one of many about to be destroyed at the local golf course, Had just got an update for Silver Efex Pro 2 so was trying it out to see if it was working - this was one of the presets with the colour slightly adjusted with the white balance slider back in Lightroom. The processing works well with your plant, Tony.

Inspired by Helen's tulip. An egg. Do you think I could get $2 million from the National Art Gallery?

I wouldn't start thinking how you're going to spend the money, Clive! Works well for this challenge though.

Just one more before the next theme - was driving down this road the other day and thought it might fit the subject especially when I tried a Vintage preset in Silver Efex that minimalized it further. It would be even more minimalized if I took the pic today as we have a white blanket of snow over everything Tony

What a nice ending for this challenge, Tony! It has such a nostalgic, lonely feel to it. Brings to mine this song. Look forward to seeing what you have planned for the next B/W Challenge. So happy to have another host for this challenge.
