Because of some posts in another thread where the discussion turned to text effects, thought I'd update this thread to bring it back to lifeRealize - you can clip background paper to any shape, too text does not have to be rasterized before clipping Same principle for a photo in text - substitute photo for background paper in the first post's directions
You can use one photo for all letters in your text, or you can use a separate photo for each letter Fat clunky font is best for this
Two layers of text, two colors - one layer offset by a couple of pixels using the arrow keys

I know Elements has an ability to Copy a Layer Style but is there no way to save it other than saving the project, remembering where its at and reopening to copy?

Here's an example of the way layer styles really had an effect on the text - The text and graphics were filled with pulled pixels. The text was two layers - both layers used styles - bevels/shadows

Back on the now-closed EV forum, I posted the same question. This was suggested. Instead of saving the project, . . .- Save just the layer with the Layer Style applied.- Rename the layer to better identify the Layer Style. This is still a lot of work. However, at least, it will be easier when you need to locate and identify a given Layer Style you had customized to use it in another project.

That could work. I think now that I have been back in this a little, this could be one of the biggest drawbacks of Elements.

Stinson - admittedly, I keep my editing of photos to a minimum - editing only to make a photo work on a scrapbook page - so I'm probably not one to comment on this, but I'm surprised you are able to use the same parameters on your styles for multiple photos.
When I want to use the same style settings on multiple layers, I copy/drag the layer style to the next layer, but still, I find I'm tweaking the style settings on most layers.
I get your frustration, though. There are things I wish were in PSE, but I have tried CC (or whatever they now call 'full-blown' Photoshop) and I found CC to be frustrating in all the choices I had. It really slowed me down.
But then again, if you get heavily into photo editing, maybe you could give CC a try.

Here is another possibility. You could get an add-on -- Elements+ -- to give Elements this capability. Saving Custom StylesAnd the bonus? - It costs only $12. - Its creator is a member here -- Andrei Doubrovski. - A five-star customer service.
