Off topic but the Merlin app available from Cornell is great - am really enjoying the recent sound addition. Hold up a phone when you hear a bird and it tells you what it is. Seems to be remarkably accurate. Tony |

And better yet, it's free AFAIK. I can make other suggestions, just let me know. While we are not expert birders, we have been at it awhile. Always glad to help.

I had received a beautiful bouquet of flowers as a thank-you the day before we went away. Sadly they needed attention and were rather sorry looking on our return. Today I took a picture of them with the intent of using them with a texture.   |

Clive - I want to move in with you. (Well, maybe, not in the winter  ). You have such interesting “neighbors”. I have a beautiful view, but wildlife is scarce. Even the water lovers are few and far between. We did have an alligator for a while, but he got falsely accused of grabbing a neighbor’s dog and they took him to jail. They tore down the trees and the eagles left… However, I did hear a bear is roaming the neighborhood…. Careful what you wish for??? |

Thanks for the nice comments about the flowers. I had sent her a phone picture when I first received them. I have thought of sending her this picture as well but not sure if she would have the same reaction as the comments above. If we had not gone away the day after I received them they would certainly have lasted longer.

Moonson Monster (Palo Verde Beetle - Derobrachus germinatus) appears during the monsoon season to breed. Adults live about 1 month, larvae live around tree roots and may take 3-4 years to become an adult. Predators of adult beetles include roadrunners, owls, coyotes and bobcats. The grubs are eaten by coati, skunk and possibly bears.  |
