DXO did a good job with noise reduction and sharpening as these were hand held. |

It's a shot of a lamp on the roof of my porch. Quite arty Phil. Nice. Looks like the lamp and ceiling have some history and you wonder what they have seen. tonyw Sweet corn on on here as well. Had some yesterday and today....yummy stuff. No photos from me today!? Will work on that tomorrow ... |

I think you are going to add a new perspective to this thread, Phil. I have often admired the work of photographers who take notice things that may be easily overlooked.

Mt. Mitchell is about 20 minutes from home. I thought I would take a few pictures of the New York skyline. However it was not a clear day and using PS haze reduction didn't do it justice. So instead I took a picture of the 9/11 Memorial. As many times as I've been there, it is still so painful to read the names of the many Monmouth County residents who lost their lives that day, so many in their 20's and 30's.

That's a beautiful monument to a terrible day. I hope all Americans realise that you were not alone on that day (or any other day), even from 3,500 miles away on the other side of the Atlantic ocean. Thanks for sharing hmca . |

Here's another couple of photos I grabbed this morning in-between the rain showers: Have to agree with Helen - welcome to the thread and hope you get me thinking out of the box - I do like to crop but have a habit of thinking I have to include everything - the whole flower or all the washing line. Not so as you clearly demonstrate with your pics from today. Also glad to see the weather is improving over there (I have a SIL just outside Leicester) Tony |

Nice memorial Helen. On 9/11 were were camping in the mountains. We had arrived back at camp from the city late the night before (9/10) as our second granddaughter was born the day before. That morning, our son phoned and said we needed to find a TV stat. Our camp neighbours were Fred and Pat from North Carolina. We watched some on their motorhome TV (satellite dish) and then Fred and I went fishing to take our minds off it all as they were in no position to dash home. On a more pleasant note ... A bumble bee was attracted to our waning delphinium flowers this morning. The great horned owl was in a tree across the road. Both taken with the 200-600 lens set at 600 mm.

Another lotus blossom - stopped by the local garden with a lotus pond today and got lots of pics (it was a nice cool day for a change). One I posted for the weekly theme but this one I'm playing around using Color Efex Pro 4. Made me realise I needed a lesson and found the Anthony Morganti videos like this one. Still digesting the info but here's where I am so far:  Tony |

Thanks tonyw There's actually very little cropping involved in those two photos. I'd already more-or-less composed the final images in the LCD monitor on the back of my camera at the time of shooting. The only real change was to go from the default 4:3 ratio to a 3:2 ratio. I'd just read in my camera manual how the 3:2 ratio mimics 35mm film so thought it would be interesting to see if that improves the overall feel. Re. Leicester - small world |
