Mountain Sheep (Mouflon). After a pleasant mountain picnic with the family, I decided to visit a fenced off mountain sheep sanctuary (Mouflon sheep). Visitors must stay outside the high fence!* They obligingly stood still long enough for the photo. I think they got used to me. If they were in the wild, I don't think I would have been able to get within 100 metres of them. They have excellent climbing skills and can run up the side of a mountain and disappear before you can say "Jack Robinson"! Kind regards Chris *PS I discovered that with a telephoto lens its possible to shoot through the wire fence. The fence is so out of focus that it does not appear in the final image. In the two shots below, I think I managed to shoot over the fence. However, I was still able to get some decent pictures through the fence.

Nice, Chris. I especially like the second one with the close-up of his horns.

Super photos Chris. So nice of the sheep to strike a pose. The bottom one seems to be saying, "This is my good side".

That bottom picture is a beauty, Clive! Thanks Helen. Vesper sparrows have such nice songs. You can listen here. Listen to the audio clips vs the video.

Found these today munching on the carrots. Generally called parsley worms but here they seem to prefer the carrots! Apparently they don't taste good so the birds leave them alone. Was a pity to remove them as they turn into rather beautiful Black Swallowtail butterflies.

We went up to Mt Mitchell today. It is the highest point on the Atlantic seaboard from Maine to the Yucatan and is about 20 minutes away. While I was able to get a picture that gives you a good idea of the view, thanks to Dehaze, I really need to go back on a clear day. You can see Sandy Hook, which I often post pictures of on that strip of land in the foreground. If you look closely you can see the lighthouse.

A Sunflower growing on the allotment. It was very hot there today with plants in the greenhouse crying out for a drink. I think I will have to go there daily to do the watering while the weather is warm.

We had company today and they wanted to visit the Alberta Birds of Prey Center across the road... here. We spent two hours there and took in a flying demo. Cellphone photo. Hazy sky.

Wasted apples. Such a shame but I'm the only one around at the moment to look after the allotment on a daily basis. The owner is away for a couple of weeks and it's a big plot to tend single-handed. I pick runner beans, cherry tomatoes and victoria plums every day. Plus do the watering. Runner beans are distributed amongst the neighbours. I can't possibly handle the apple crop as well and so... Some healthier looking apples...

That's a shame, Mart. It's too bad there aren't more people to help....your pictures certainly tell a sad story. Looks like there is certainly enough for one pie hanging on that tree.

The apples don't last long once they hit the ground. They seem to start going bad almost on the same day. In previous years the best ones have been picked up, the bad parts cut off and the remainder put in a juicer. Then put into repurposed plastic milk bottles and frozen. There may be some apples left that can have this done by the time we're back to full staffing levels again.
