Spreading composted manure just west of our house this afternoon. Hope you had an East wind! That sounds like the voice of experience; I sure wouldn't want to try to sleep on the lee side of that. When they pump the ponds around here, you can wipe it off your lips; thankfully, we live a few miles too far for it to affect us. Good for clearing out the sinuses, though.

Lovely day in the river valley. Started sunny, but clouded over but no wind which is always a huge bonus here on the plains. A lot of people out today and it seemed everyone was feeding the chickadees.

Lovely day in the river valley. What river ? I really like the way you included the little cameo in the corner of the full size image. I believe we have several of that same bird in our area, or something that looks a lot like it. I have never tried hand-feeding birds; after seeing your photo of the lady with a bird on her hand, I am going to try to get a similar shot of my little 8-yr-old assistant doing likewise; she would think that was just TOO COOOLLL!

I don't know if this really counts because I took this photo yesterday but created the final image today. Caspa, the whole idea for this thread is to post a picture on the day you take it. From the introductory post back in June: I am always trying to think of ways to encourage member participation. Today's Picture is meant to be a thread where members can post daily with one or two (within the same post) pictures that were taken that day . The picturesshould only be a reflection of whatever caught your eye on a particular day. Feel free to give a little back-story or ask for some advice. Comments about other's pictures are up to you, when and if, you feel like it. How often you participate is totally up to you.....daily, weekly, occasionally. So let's get started and see if we can inspire and encourage each other and just have some fun.Occasionally, a participating member might "slip up", but for the most part everyone tries to abide by the introduction to this thread.....started back in June! It's probably a good idea to remind members about this so good question and thanks for asking. You'll know for the next time.

I believe we have several of that same bird in our area, or something that looks a lot like it. This is a black-capped chickadee. Mere mortals like I could not tell the difference between our species and Carolina chickadee that might live in your region. I was photographing chickadees in winter 3 or 4 years ago and one landed on my hat. They are "user friendly" wild birds. Oldman River going through Lethbridge, Alberta.

Love your bird in the hand photo, Clive! Something very different from me today. There is a film crew in town filming for the movie "Bros". It will be starring Billy Eichner and Luke Macfarlane.

They are "user friendly" wild birds. And great practice birds, as they do NOT sit still for very long. cjt

Thank you for clarifying hmca. I have deleted the post and will post the photo in the IOW Submission thread instead :-)

Stopped by one of the more seasonally decorated houses today in the rain - they are obviously very enthusiastic about Halloween! Tony

Stopped by one of the more seasonally decorated houses today in the rain - they are obviously very enthusiastic about Halloween! They are definitely enthusiastic ! If you put a bunch of stuff like that in a yard around here, you would have to stand guard day and night; else, those dummies and skeletons would disappear and later reappear either hung from an overpass or thrown from an overpass in front of oncoming traffic. Anyone brave enough to put out an inflatable will find it shot with an arrow or shot with a pellet rifle (or worse, depending on how much alcohol is involved).
