RAW CHALLENGE The photographer, who has an interest in history, said “it was a typical summer mid-Atlantic hazy, hot, and humid day. The sky was blown-out but the buildings are the focus. If members can bring back the sky - great, but, I would like to see brightness, clarity, and vibrance with the building." As always your creative vision is welcome as well. 1. Participants in the challenge are asked to provide a screenshot of their edits within the RAW converter of their choice along with the reasons for their edits. 2. Following their initial edits members may use whatever “tools" they wish to create an image that portrays their artistic vision for the image as long as the character of the original image is not lost. 3. Including information on plug-ins, actions, external editors, textures, sky replacements etc that were used will only help to inform members of some of the creative options that are available to today’s photographer. 4. Including layer stacks may be something to consider when presenting a final edit. You have until Thursday August 5th to submit your edits. At the end of the challenge the image creator will select his/her three favorite edits. Comments are restricted to complimenting another member's edit. The RAW file can be downloaded here. You do not need a dropbox account to download. Look for the download top right. This is a screenshot of the image we will be working on:

That's a fun RAW image to play with - here's where I got so far: Started by cropping and tweaking the perspective to straighten the walls - decided to concentrate on the store fronts and cropped out the end wall. Then basic adjustments in LR - mainly clarity, dehaze and texture to get rid of the haze. Here's where I finished up (and the adjustments I used) Then decided it needed a new sky so took it into Photoshop and added one and also as I'd been playing around with the Panos Cartoonizer action I tried it and decided to use it at 30% in Overlay to add an extra bit of crispness - so here's where that finished up: Tony

That's a fun RAW image to play with My thought as well. You've gotten us off to a great start, Tony. You certainly addressed the photographer's request. I especially like the rich color of the buildings in the second version.

Another nice edit. Like the detail you brought out in the bricks, Frank.

So after having my first try at this I have to say that I found it difficult to work on the sky and the green hillside. I did add a sky from Luminar after trying several of my own. I am including my RAW panel plus the filters I used from NIK CE. I added a curves adjustment at the end. My panels always come in too big.....but now my RAW panel is too small. tonyw/ fotofrank.....what dimensions do you use when adding your RAW panel?

If this isn't legal please delete. 1 added and adjustment layer using LUT tables - moonlight 2 added an adjustment later - curves/rgb to blue to get a yellow layer 3 used a soft brush with foreground color black and brushed away the moonlight layer to reveal the yellow below the moonlight layer to make lights in the windows & lamp posts. Also, added some clouds with a cloud brush. i.ibb.co/hmXDmmM/RAW-Challenge-174.jpg

As long as you don't add something that wasn't in the original image you're fine, Judy. When I saw the lampposts I thought it might be fun to try a day to night effect. I especially like the additional lighting you have done. Very nice edit.

Yes, agreed the lamp posts screamed day to night try. Maybe outside of the challenge, could try a lightning storm with rain etc....

Very nice effort, Lillias. After the basics it will be interesting to see how members' creative ideas for this image will transform it.

Anxious to start "playing with this image" beyond the basic edits I used a sketch effect from Topaz Impression 1. Added a sandstone texture and poster edges from the filter gallery. Curves adj. Finished with a clipping mask.
