Sepiana When are you applying the Find Edges filter? Are you applying it on the layer before the Color Dodge layer? Are the edges on a separate layer with a blend mode of ? For me, this is a new and interesting approach. Thanks Pete, I apply the Find Edges filter on a duplicate Background layer and change the blending mode to Overlay or Soft Light, 100% Opacity. If the results are too strong, I will reduce the Opacity to about 50% - 75%. Then, I create a Stamp Visible layer and proceed with the tutorial.

Thanks for sharing your workflow, Sepiana. And thanks for asking PeteB. Like so many tuts the trick seems to be finding the image that works best with the technique. Original Color B/W

- Applied the Find Edges filter (Soft Light blending mode, 100% Opacity). - Took the file into Topaz Clarity (Hummingbird Wings). - Applied a Tableaux texture by FrenchKiss (Genesis, Multiply blending mode, 50% Opacity). - Applied an Adobe Paper Texture Pro (Creme Anglaise, Multiply blending mode, 75% Opacity). - Created the border effect with Filter Forge (Artistic Noise Frame). - Image from Pixabay.

To create the sketch effect for this one I used the minimum filter instead of motion blur. I created a stamped layer and gave it the multiply blend mode with an opacity of 30%. I duplicated the original background layer and sent it to the top of the layer stack and blended it with the colour blend mode at 50% to reduce the intensity of the colour and created another stamped layer. Then I used my favourite black mask and brushed back the image in part. I then put on one of Jodi’s frame styles. The image used came from morguefile.

This time I used the minimum filter to create the sketch. I have always liked Lillias' mask technique (Create a mask/fill it with black/use white brush to reveal image). When my sketch was finished I pasted it on top of a white parchment paper and then used the mask filled with black and painted with white using Julie Mead brushes to reveal the image.

A Trail Run (Image title) My trial run of Sepiana’s “find edges” technique. 1) Applied find edges to the background using the overlay blend mode 2) Created the sketch using minimun filter 3) Smudged the hat, the arms, the face and the legs of the little girl. 4) Selectively dodge and burned 5) Selectively brought back the color of the racer 6) Added a vignette and a border. I got carried away Thanks Sepiana
