I can not figure out why the Color Efex Pro 4 in the Nik Collection will not launch. When I click it in the Selective Tool menu I get an error message from Elements:
All the other tools in the Nik collection work just fine. The program is in the Google folder where it belongs. It is only in Elements 2021 that this is happening; it launches just fine in Elements 2018 for example.
I am hoping someone can suggest a fix, as I am stumped!

It would help a lot if someone that has Elements 2021 and the Nik Collection could tell me if they can launch Color Efex. Perhaps it is not compatible with Elements 2021.

I have the NiK Collection installed on two copies of PSE 2021. No problems launching Color Efex via the Selective Tool. No problems either if I go via the Filter menu. Do you also get this error message if you launch Color Efex via the Filter menu? EDIT: See if this suggestion from DxO Support will help. -- From the selective tool I selected a Nik filter, but it won't open?

When I select Filter and then Nik Collection, Color Efex is not in the menu, but all the other components are. It appears Color Efex is not being loaded when I launch Elements, but as you can see it does appear to be where it should be:
I'm going to go look at the link you provided now to see if there is something there.
EDIT: unfortunately that was not helpful.

I no longer need assistance with this issue, as I realized I value the Nik Collection enough to purchase the version from DXO.

If so, compare the contents with the same folder in your E 2018. Maybe I missed it; did it ever work in 2021 before ?

Good suggestion, but yes I did confirm that all the folders were identical. I even compared the config files to confirm that they are to same. Very much a mystery, but as I said it is no longer an issue for me, as I just popped for the upgrade. Thanks for answering.

I unfortunately am experiencing the very same issue. The only portion that does not work is the Color Efex part!

Sorry to hear that pmb. I dug pretty deeply into it but did not unearth anything that might explain it. Anyway, welcome to PSE&M. I am glad you found us. Perhaps a solution will yet be found.

I unfortunately am experiencing the very same issue. The only portion that does not work is the Color Efex part! This may or may not be any help at all. I had a similar issue with an entirely different program and the culprit may be very similar to you guy's situation. Some time ago, they were giving away full Elite version of DxO lifetime ownership for FREE. I took advantage of the free deal and installed it on four machines, all 64-bit; two were Windows 7 Home Premium and two were identical Windows 7 Pro. The program would launch and work perfectly on the two Home Premium machines. On both of the identical Windows 7 Pro machines, trying to open the program would get a splash screen, it would immediately disappear, and then nothing whatsoever, as if the program had never been opened. After much investigation, it turned out that some sort of DirectX version was present on the two Home Premium machines and absent on the Pro machines. I downloaded and installed the missing file and the program immediately started working as it should. Seeing as Sepiana has no problem getting Color Efex to work on two separate machines and it is not working for either of you guys, it is possible that you may be facing a similar situation as I was. I am interested in seeing whether the new pay-for install solves the problem for Tpgettys; it may include and automatically install the missing link.

This problem with Color Efex is baffling! I have the Nik Collection 4 installed in Elements, Photoshop, and Lightroom (all three apps on two machines). No problems! (Neither did I have this problem with the Nik Collection 3.) I'm curious. Which version of the NiK Collection do you have?

Sorry to hear that pmb . I dug pretty deeply into it but did not unearth anything that might explain it. Anyway, welcome to PSE&M. I am glad you found us. Perhaps a solution will yet be found. I wanted to let you know if I go into the plug in's folder and the Nik Collection the color efex folder is there. I can run the program from it just fine by double clicking color efex application. It just does not show up when I open up photoshop elements program itself but all of the others do show up. Peg

Mine does not show up in the filter option of Photoshop Elements 2021 which I was using it just fine up to last week. Then it was no longer working. The color efex application does show up in the nik collection folder but not in the google collection folder.
