Hi everyone, Would you like to participate in the Weekly Photo Challenge? Just take a photo that is your interpretation of the theme and post it in this thread. The rules are rather simple.
- Your photo(s) should be your own, i.e., they should not have been taken by someone else. - Photoshopping is allowed but should be kept to the basics only rather than a total transformation. - Grab your camera, experiment, and, most of all, have fun.NOTE For this week's theme, you need to take two shots of the SAME scene, location, person, object, animal, etc. Zoom out for the first shot -- to capture most or all of your subject. Zoom in for the second shot -- to capture a detail of your subject, one which you think should be spotlighted. Grab your camera and . . . let the zooming begin!

My camera (Fujifilm X100V) has a fixed lens, with no zoom. I thought for a moment I might need to sit this one out, but remembered a digital zoom option buried deep within the menus. A bit of poking around and I found it. The digital zoom is basically a crop function with two steps, changing the camera's zoom angle from the 35mm native to 50mm intermediate and 70mm zoom. Results are below. 35mm 50mm 70mm Thanks for the theme Sepiana. It got me to explore a function of my camera that I've never used.

Looks like we were looking at a similar scene today, Bill. I have been noticing this machinery in the river for a couple of days now. This week's theme caused me to zoom in for a closer look.

Black-billed Magpie ( Pica hudsonia) shot through a double-pane bedroom window and in horrid flat light.

Zoom zoom... Our Christmas tree in the sitting room. My wife made the lace ornaments. HA! Not by hand ... she has an embroidery sewing machine.

A nice cool sunny day for a change so good for a walk round a local gardens - still looking quite green in December. A wide angle shot @ 18mm And zooming in to 135mm to see who is that lurking in the bush - it's a mermaid! A little underdressed for the weather! Tony

I really like the three zoom settings; they smoothly draw the viewers' eyes to a detail of your "whole" subject. I did think about your camera with a fixed lens when I chose this theme; I just thought you would do some fancy footwork to zoom out/zoom in.

I have been noticing this machinery in the river for a couple of days now. This week's theme caused me to zoom in for a closer look. Helen, and you did a good job zooming in for a closer look. The details of this machinery are very clear. Just taken a few minutes ago..... I like how you captured the potted poinsettias going diagonally across the frame. It adds a sense of motion -- from the whole subject to the detailed one.

Unexpected feeding station for the birds in our local park. A recent addition and point of interest for walkers of all ages. Dennis Dennis, you nailed the zoom process with two beautifully composed images. And the bonus? The gate would also be a candidate for zooming out/in.
