Happy 4th everyone!
Just setting up a new computer and was wondering what to do about PSE. I have #7 should I install 7 and then upgrade or buy 13 and start fresh?
Thanks!

Arabna -
Your choice. It doesn't really matter. If you get PSE13, it will happily reside on your computer alongside PSE7.
Enjoy your new computer!

Thanks! Arabna, If PSEv.7 will work on the new computer, I would be inclined to utilize it, then buy PSEv.14 when it becomes available later on this year.

arabma,
That's a tough question, with no easy answer. It all depends on your needs and interests.
Each version of Elements is an independent one; you can have multiple versions installed on the same computer. You also need to keep in mind that a few features were removed from Elements starting with version 12. So, if you use these features, it may be a good to keep Elements 7 installed. NOTE: The 3D Transform filter was removed back in Elements 8.
forums.adobe.com/thread/1302663?tstart=0 Adobe did a major overhaul of Elements back in version 11. Why don't you download the free 30-day trial of Elements 13 to test the waters?
www.adobe.com/downloads.html
NOTE:
As far as Elements 7 working on a new computer, it shouldn't be a problem. I have Elements 7 running on Windows 7 and Windows 8.1. No problems whatsoever!
As you have Elements 7, you are eligible to pay the Upgrade price for a new version (instead of the Full price). This is how Adobe rewards customers' loyalty.
Adobe should be releasing Elements 14 during the week of September 20. If you purchase Elements 13 around the time of the release of this new version (about 30 days), you may be eligible for a complimentary upgrade.

The only thing you are up against with older versions are possible security issues. After a new release Adobe will not issue security fixes for the older version.

Joe,
Pardon my ignorance! Has Adobe ever released security fixes for Elements? I didn't know that.
EDIT: I did some checking. It looks like the last time Adobe issued a Security Advisory for Elements (version 7 and 8) was back in 2009-2011. It doesn't look like security concerning Elements is a big issue.

Just pointing out a potential issue. There are probably flaws in all their software (and every other software package ever written) that they and the hackers are unaware of. Hopefully the hackers will remain unaware of the flaws, if any.

Thanks for all the advice! So you all run more than one version at once, how does that work? Do most of you also use Premiere for video editing?

I don't run more than one version at once, but obviously this has appeal to some who post here for purposes of research, genuine helpfulness to the uninitiated, and other subtle nuances. As the program has evolved over the years, some functionality has been refined/deleted, but, on the other hand, there have been useful additions. So if you have ample disk space on your new computer, keep the old and and go for the new.

Before you buy PSE, I suggest it would be worth checking out and comparing the price of the upgrade vs getting it 'as is'.
In UK, it seems both new and upgrade are the same price. By getting 'new', you will have two versions (old and new) to install and can then choose which version you want to work with.
I'm assuming an upgrade will mean you actually only have the upgraded version, and not the 'old' version, available to work with. Please, someone, put me right on this if this is incorrect assumption on my part.

Starting with Elements 11 Adobe introduced this feature -- you can open two versions of Elements at the same time. Just open the older version of Elements first and then open the newer one.
Here is a handy chart which compares several versions of Elements. It will give you an idea of what has been added to Elements since version 10. It may help you make a decision about upgrading or not upgrading to the current version of Elements.

I don't use Premiere Elements and I am not sure if we have members here who use it. We don't have a Premiere Elements board. You may want to post in the Adobe Premiere Elements forum if you need timely and expert advice on this program.

Adobe does not release two versions of Elements, one full and one upgrade version. There is only one version. The "Full" and the "Upgrade" terms refer to price differences. There are no technical differences as far as the program itself is concerned; it is the same version for both prices quoted. The difference in price is determined by your status -- no previous ownership vs. previous ownership of Elements. This is how Adobe rewards customers' loyalty.
All of the above means that arabma qualifies for the Upgrade price; she owns a previous version of Elements (version 7). It also means that she will have both versions of elements (version 7 and another one) to work with. It is up to her, not to Adobe, to decide if she wants to continue using the older version as well.
As a side note, the only version I ever paid full price was the first one I bought -- Elements 4. Since then I have bought Elements 7, 10, 11, 12, and 13, all of them at the upgrade price. I have them up and running on two computers and use them as I see fit.

What about a video converter program anyone use wonder share? It may be a good idea to start a new thread on this issue. Otherwise, your question will just get buried in this thread and won't receive the attention it deserves. You could post your question in the Other Software board.

Yes, I appreciate there is no difference between upgrade and full. However, I'm confused. It appears there is NO price difference between Upgrade and Full in UK. Have I missed something? Maybe it's different in other countries, including the States? See the Adobe page here - www.adobe.com/cart.html?marketSegment=COM&editSku=65234394
