It never ceases to be weird to me how computing devices can behave and act in ways that defy the rules of mechanics and common sense. As I actually liked some of the differences I was experiencing, such as being able to make and edit posts in draft form, I left things be for a while; until, really weird things started happening. I would be reading in the middle of a page and it would suddenly zip to either the top or bottom; or just jump from the page I was on back to the index. So I followed sargenta1's suggestion above, I did option 2) log out and back in; I didn't mess with the IE cache. Once I had done this, everything returned to normal.
