Charles has given permission for us to try to colorize his glass negatives. If you right click on a slide you can save it to your desktop. I thought this might be a fun challenge for us. I know that later versions of PE have included a feature for doing this. There are also many tutorial that are available on the internet. For my attempt I looked for an image that had a good amount of contrast to begin with and chose this one. Here is what I came up with: I used this tutorial. Later versions of PE include the ability to create layer groups. I don't think that is essential in following this tut. If you decide to give this a try, please post your results in this thread and not in Charles original thread. Posting a picture of t he original and how you arrived at your results would be helpful.

Here is what I came up with Did you have to pick and choose each color; or, once one color was established, did the rest just work itself out --- sort of like, was the color there all along and we just could not see it ? You did an excellent job and your version looks true to what the photo may have looked like had it have been in color.

Thank you for getting this started Helen; it looks like fun!
Here are two tutorials I found for doing this with Elements:

Buckskin, I had to select each area. Because there were so many straight lines the polygonal lasso tool made this relatively easy. Tpgettys.....thanks for adding your links. It would be interesting to see the results by members who use the new feature added to the latest versions of Photoshop Elements.

I kick started with colorize photo, then bit of hue/sats, then color overlay as I kinda liked the shade of wall Helen's done, few image corrections then open in raw to finish off.

Thank you, Charles. tourerjim.....I like the way you were able to add color to the shrubs on the left. Was that a result of using the colorize feature in Photoshop Elements?

Hue/Sats, Helen, I wanted to try and get bit of green in the trees and doing so changed some other areas of image. Aww almost forgot I had to do some repairs on both sides of the image that can be seen in the start image.

I grabbed an image that I especially liked and used the Colorize Photo tool in PSE2020. I did minimal additional tweaking using the Adjust Lighting tools. The result is really nice I think!

Good job coloring the photo. People take good color photos and purposefully make them colorless and here you guys are making color photos out of colorless ones. Those two guys don't look like they would be very tall. They sure are scooted in under the table too. I see a five-string; or maybe it is a four string, although I doubt it; by the time they started making them with screw-held heads everything was five-string. I like the way they have the alarm clock hanging on a nail instead of sitting on a table. I also like how Uncle Albert has captured the guy on the left making notes of his important smart-phone conversation.

You referring to the Banjo perhaps?? I am happy you seeing the guy on the left using his smart-phone! I did not notice the smart phone but now yes I can see he is using one!! <grin> Thank you!!
