What are you talking about here? A five-string or four string WHAT? You referring to the Banjo perhaps?? Yes, the banjo; I only ever heard them referred to as a five-string.

This is fun and satisfying, since there is no "right" answer.

I was not going to do this, but after watching the video done by George Peirson I decided what the heck it looks easy enough I want to try it out. I do have PSE 2021 so I do have the Colorize Photo option.
When George talks about clicking on the Eyedropper tool at 4 minutes 24 seconds in the video, this is where I have a problem in that my eyedropper is greyed out and I cannot select the tool. Does anyone have any idea why I have this problem?
Thank you

Does anyone have any idea why I have this problem? Charles, After you have made a selection, you need to click on the Droplet Tool button (Step 2) and add a droplet in the selection. This will mark the area to be recolored. Once you do that, the Eyedropper will be activated.

Hi Charles, Once you are in the Colorize dialog, click Manual (top right on screen). Choose the Quick Selection tool and mark a region to be colorized. After that you must click the Droplet Tool button (middle right on screen), then put the cursor in the region you just selected and click. You should see a tear-drop icon in the region and the eyedropper will now be active.

Thanks, Clive. I agree. I happened upon a site that supposedly can render a color image based on the original colors in the photo. I gave it a try on a couple of images. I chose the one I liked the best and added a new sky.
This was the original slide: So then I wondered what it would do with the image that Tom chose. I think Photoshop Elements did a much better job!

I did not see, or maybe did not understand that he added a droplet in the selection. I just now went back and re-watched it and I still do not see what you are saying I should do. Did George do this? How do you add a droplet??

I chose the same picture you selected with the 2 Purdue students sitting at a table. Their hands do not look to me being the correct color so I have the hands selected, now I want to select a color from a face but when I try selecting a face I get nothing to work with. I could do something within the selected hands but that is not where I want to select the color from. I did just now find if I do go back and select within the hand that is selected that I want to change the color of THEN the eye dropper tool is now selectable. I guess this is what I need to do?

He does it around the 4:14 mark. After you click on the Droplet Tool, you need to click inside the selected area in your image. Once you do that, you will see that the selected area was recolored and there is a blue-outlined tear drop within the area. Next to it, there is a garbage can. If you don't like the results, you click on it to remove the color. See if this Adobe document will help. -- Automatically colorize your photos. It has screenshots showing the droplet.

Exactly so; well done! Now you use the eye dropper tool to select a color anywhere in the image.

The only thing I changed was the color of the hands resting on the table from what the computer generated by itself. The hand on the left I like the color better than the hand on the right side.

Glad you had fun with it, Judy ( blackmutt). I notice you colorized a different image than the one below. I like the yellow lettering on the sign. Could you give us an idea as to what technique you used?
