As an aside....what I really wanted to do was to edit the foreground, mountains and sky separately and then combine the three using masks....that proved to be beyond my capabilities! I did use Select Subject and it did a reasonable job of selecting the island and buildings but included a chunk of mountain and left out a bunch of trees so needed some manual adjustment. Tony

Opened in DxO PureRaw then into CameraRaw. Made adjustments in ACR. Decided to move the church within the frame and used the golden ration for placement and cropping. Added a sky with clouds and darken the water in the foreground.. Darken the background and did some dodge and burning.

I did as well for the village. It made me think back to an old video by Matt K.(?) He used one RAW image and edited it twice. One was for the sky and one was for the foreground I think, and then he combined them using a mask. I find On1's local adjustments tab a very easy method to accomplish such tasks. I know On1 is a great photo editor but I always fall back on using what I am most comfortable/familiar with.

Took my original edit into Topaz Studio - Texture Effects - Gritty Grunge and applied the Black Hole effect. Lightened the result a little with a levels adjustment. I created the frame some time ago using a rectangle and adding a torn paper strip. Unfortunately I forget where I got the strip from. It could have been from either Scrappin Cop or Spoongraphics. BG Vintage paper from the Coffee Shop.

Nice effect, Lillias. I had a feeling this image would inspire some creative editing.

One more - cropped in a little closer, added a sketch effect with the poster edges filter and added a Jodi frame. Tony

Beautiful edit, Tony. Glad you stuck with it. I am trying as well but still nothing worth sharing.

Converted to a painting in Topaz Studio 2, my own custom preset.

Nice, Frank! Think this image should lend itself nicely to some "artistic" edits.

For this one I used a sketch art action from Mighty Deals I placed the original on top of the sketch and using a black layer mask and a soft brush with white at varying opacities I brushed over parts of the original to bring the colour back to the areas shown. I cropped a smidgen off the bottom of the image.

So I had become somewhat obsessed with trying to bring back more detail in the distant mountains. In my attempt today I decided to look for an image of the location on StockSolo to see if that might help I found this image: Using that image I used the Match Color option in PS and came up with this: I then layered that with my original edit: Through a series of layers, masks, trips between Camera Raw and CE 4 filters and curves I ended up with this:
Not sure how much of a noticeable difference it ended up making.....but it was fun experimenting. And now I look forward to just "playing" with this image.

The first pic there was what made me go for a tighter crop though curiously from the angle they took the shot there are hardly any mountains in view - just lots of sky. Tony
