This Creative Effects Challenge will show you how to create a 3D Extruded image using Layers in Photoshop Elements or the full version of Photoshop.
Starting Image:
Final Image:
Please read thru the entire tutorial before you start.
Let’s get started:
1. Open an image that you want to create a 3D Extruded image from.
2. Duplicate the layer (Ctrl/CMD+j).
3. On the duplicated layer go to Filter>Stylize>Extrude.
a. Depending on the size of your Image you will need to make adjustments to the default settings.
Default Settings:
My Settings for an image from a 24mb camera
Feel free to adjust the settings as needed for your image size or just season to taste.
4. Click OK after you enter your settings.
5. Create a composite Layer (Ctrl/Cmd+Alt/Option+Shift+e) all at the same time.
6. Go to Filter>Stylize>Find Edges.
7. Desaturate this layer (Ctrl/Cmd+Shift+u) and change the blend mode to Multiply. This will help to define the edges of the extrusion.
8. Add a Levels adjustment layer to make any tonal adjustments. Remember you can impact the tonality of your final image just by changing the blend mode of the Levels adjustment layer.
a. Just changing the blend mode on the Levels adjustment layer to Screen will lighten the image.
b. Just changing the blend mode to Multiply on the Levels adjustment layer will darken the image.
c. You can adjust the Opacity of the Levels adjustment layer to season to taste.
But wait - you can just use the action that I have supplied.
