For this RAW challenge we will be working on an image of the St. Augustine Lighthouse in Florida. After presenting your initial RAW edit, you may work on a creative interpretation. The photographer would “like members to unleash their creativity with the lighthouse in any manner they choose, utilizing all the features, actions, plug-ins, and any other magic they may have in their toolbox. “ It will be interesting to see the results of this challenge where the photographer is most interested in creative representations. Other than a sky replacement you may not introduce anything new to the image……ex: boat, person, dog etc.
You have until Thursday, July 21 to complete this challenge. You may submit as many images as you like. At the end of the challenge, the photographer will choose his top three edits. Comments are restricted to complimenting another member's edit. Here is a screenshot of the image we will be working on: RAW LINK

Nice start for this challenging challenge! kdcintx.......I especially like the way you calmed that bright highlight right side of the lighthouse. fotofrank......You have done a nice job making the lighthouse stand-out against the sky. Looking forward to what members come up with for this image and especially the creative edits that follow your initial submission. Have fun!

All processing using On1. Slight crop and level; slighted reduced noise; lightened shadows using a local tone adjustment applied with inverted lumenance mask but with sky totally masked out, converted to BW emphasizing lighthouse.

Lillias , nice basic edit....I look forward to seeing where your creativity takes you for your next submission. Peterj .....you have done a nice job separating the lighthouse from the background. Those bold stripes on the lighthouse invite a B/W edit.

Here's my basic edit as well. Initial edit in DXO Pure RAW thanks to Frank's mention of DXO. Additionally edited in Camera RAW followed by NIK CE 4. I cloned out the woman on the right and got rid of the sign...a few other minor clean-ups.

After initial edits......you are free to creatively edit the lighthouse. I wanted to create a nighttime image. I used a sky from StockSolo and numerous filters in Nik CE 4. Added the light beams with brushes. Not sure how believable they look but here's my attempt.

I love your edit, Frank! Beautifully toned and I like the faded blurred look you have used on the sky. The lighthouse looks bold and beautiful!

Here's my version of the St. Augustine Lighthouse. Processed in Camera Raw to show the sky to its best--I loved the sky so I tried to emphasize the clouds and then, in Photoshop, cloned to take down the two brightest parts. I straightened the lighthouse slightly and used content aware raw to fill in the corners. Then I used the Brightness/Contrast Adjustment layer (applied multiple times), to adjust different portions of the image...one for the foreground, one for the sky, and a third one for the lighthouse, masking out the remainder of the image each time...and creating a stamped layer in between each adjustment. After that, I did some minor adjustments in different parts of the image until I was happy with the results. My final edits were 2 LUTs layered above the image...the lower one is Coffee1 and above that I used Burnt Black and White. I'm not sure where I got these (so many LUTs, so little time!). Note: I didn't crop the bottom/foreground because I felt there were some interesting things to look at there among the lights and shadows...

Thanks for sharing your work-flow, Vicki. The LUT's you used have produced a unique toning.
