First photo using my new Nikkor Z MC 105 on Z6 II. Exposure 1/20, ISO speed 16,000, f/18 on a tripod at 9:00 at night. Part of my flower garden. Processed in On1 Photo Raw and finalized in Elements. Probably should have had less f-stop (at 1:1 can get to f/51!) but the light was leaving as it was. Suggestions and input always welcome.

bnk1953 ...What a beautiful flower! You did a great job processing it and the colors are beautiful!
I know it's a bit late for this but have you thought of focus stacking? Since you were on a tripod, it wouldn't have been too hard to snap a bunch of images with the focus on different parts of the flower (starting at the front then gradually moving the focus to the back). This would make the flower sharp all the way through after processing the images.
Here's a link to a discussion with info and links for photo stacking. It's from a thread that was created in 2020 but does answer any questions you might have: Since you didn't mention which version of Elements you have, I hope this does help you.

Thanks for the compliment and suggestions. This is the first time I've ever done any macro work with a true macro lens - so there is a learning curve for me (e.g. f/18 on my 24-200 would have probably had everything in focus - but wouldn't be macro. The Nikon Z6 II does have what is called "Focus Shifting" which is the same as focus stacking. With this the camera actually takes a series of photos focused at different focus points going from front to back automatically - you set how many photos and increments before starting it up.). I really haven't done anything with that yet but this will give me an opportunity to try it out. One caveat that I have heard tho is that focus stacking (shifting) using a macro can be tricky. Something about focus "breathing" that hinders the process when combining the different exposures. Also - another learning point for me. I have Elements 2022 and also Elements+ so from your link I should be good to go. Thanks again.

Exposure 1/20, ISO speed 16,000, f/18 Super details and "cleanness" given the ISO. Is there any specific reason you shot at 9 PM, other than to try your new lens? Nice photo. Love coneflowers. Clive

Clive - I was out watering our vegetable garden and walked by the cone flower area and decided to give the new lens a try. It was one of those "Luck is what happens when Preparation meets Opportunity" So I went with what I had. I had received the lens that day but was busy with other things and also trying to figure out the "ins and outs" of the lens. There is a customizonal control ring that is defaulted to f/stop adjustment but can be set to exposure compensation or ISO. It also has a digital display for aperture, distance and depth of field and a L-Fn button that is adjustable in camera.. Plus never having had a Macro lens before - a whole new learning curve in an of itself - sort of like going from SLR to mirrorless for me. Sorry - long answer to your question. Thanks for the comopliments. ~bruce.

I had received the lens that day Bruce, Enjoy your new lens. I don't do a lot of macro but if there is absolutely nothing to photograph with the usual lenses, you can always find something worthwhile to photograph with the macro. Have fun. "Luck is what happens when Preparation meets Opportunity" A great saying for photographers. Thanks. Clive
