I like seeing your takes on this Jim and Lillias. This is a hard one especially when trying to be different..! I understand what you are saying, Jim. I think when people start posting their creative interpretations is when we will see some unique edits. Note to self: Must remember the High Pass filter in future. It makes such a difference. A photographer's "go-to" filter I can understand why it may not be one that you have used often, Lillias. aww yea hadn't given that part a thought, Helen, be good.

Here's a BW treatment; I used my previous color version and added the On1 BW filter.

I tried a sketch effect using Topaz Impression Sketch 3 preset blended with my edit of the photo.

Interesting tone to your monochrome image, Peterj. Does it have a purplish tint to it?

Interesting tone to your monochrome image, Peterj . Does it have a purplish tint to it? I applied Selinium toner ... one of the many available in On1

Thanks, Pete. I always thought of selenium as a bluish gray color when I've used it in Silver Efex. BUT....
According to Wikipedia...."Selenium toning Selenium toning is a popular archival toning process, converting metallic silver to silver selenide. In a diluted toning solution, selenium toning gives a red-brown tone, while a strong solution gives a purple-brown tone. The change in color depends upon the chemical make-up of the photographic emulsion being toned. Chloro-bromide papers change dramatically, whilst pure bromide papers change little. Fibre-based papers are more responsive to selenium toning.[2]
Selenium toning may not produce prints quite as stable as sepia or gold toning. Recently, doubts have surfaced as to the effectiveness of selenium toner in ensuring print longevity.[3]

Wanted to try a "painted look". Since PSE does not have a paint filter, I did the following--- started with my original edit created a color sketch applied diffuse (stylize>diffuse) 4 times Topaz simplify applied a surface blur added a vignette

Using my second edit I created a B&W sketch which I masked onto the sketch pad. Sketch pad from HiClipart.

Oh....this is where the fun begins! Always enjoy seeing what members come up with when they approach the challenge with their creative eye.
Pete....love that you experimented with a variety of filters until you got the painterly look you desired. Well thought-out process. Jim...to me it looks like your image might have been etched on wood. Lillias....Nice idea to add the sketch to the pad.....I like the page curl and the font you chose.

This was a fun one and I fiddled around a lot to get to where I've got so far. Basically I first adjusted the perspective to start to straighten the verticals and the selected the bright windows so I could deal with those separately. I then worked on the inside to brighten it up and fix the colours as my sense was that the camera had got the colour balance wrong inside the building plus there seemed to be a colour cast. Anyway I did what I could to adjust it to what I thought it might look like. I did take it into Color Efex to add a little detail. Then added back the windows that I'd tried to adjust separately without much success! Here's where I've got to. Certainly a real challenge. And a BW version of the above (done in Silver Efex) Tony

Looking at Tony's edit and then going back and looking at at all of the others that have been submitted is quite interesting. There really is quite a variation in our approaches....to this confined area. It also seems that coming up with a B/W...monotone look is particularly challenging. Just my observation....others are free to share their thoughts/edits.

What I like about your new attempt Tony, is the range of tones you were able to bring out. They have created a sense of depth not only in the boathouse but within the boat itself.

My attempt at a B&W version. Used my second edit and converted to B&W choosing the Newspaper Style. Then using a Texture Overlay from Coffee Shop I placed it at the top of the layers stack and blended with the Overlay blend mode at 85% opacity.
