Thank you sir. So I 1. Backup current catalog 2. Install pse 2020 3. "convert catalog" when prompted And if I don't get the convert prompt, do it manually.. Cool, sounds pretty easy. Will let you know if any issues arise. Thanks again, you folks rock!

Here we go again, my annual upgrade question. My wonderful wife got me PSE2020 for Christmas and I'm getting ready to install it. My current install location (PSE 2019 and PSE 2018) is my internal "e" drive..."my pictures" (over 77,000 of them) are also stored on "e:" So do I do a clean install 2020 to my e drive and let it rip?! Or are there any gotchas?. Do i backup and restore a catalog, etc. or create a new one? If restoring, will all the info from my 2019 organizer carry over (tags, people, etc.)? I seem to recall last year spending weeks sorting thru all the face recognition stuff, and would prefer not to have to do that again.
Anyways, looking forward to any PSE 2020 organizer upgrade information that might make this process less painful (or even painless!) You folks have always helped in the past and I look forward to your suggestions before I embark on this journey. Thanks and Happy New Year to all! Roger

Thank you Sepiana. I installed Elements on my "E." drive, and thanks to your response, you gave me the general direction to locate and create the shortcut to the exe. and pin it to my taskbar. In my case, it was "E:\program files\elements 2019 organizer\photoshoporganizer.exe". I had overlooked that there were 2 separate folders, "Photoshop Elements 2019" and "Elements Organizer 2019". Thanks again. Cheers, Roger

How do I start the PSE 2019 organizer without having to go via the home/welcome screen. I seem to recall a setting on the home screen for PSE2018 which is no longer there. I also recall running an ".....organizer.exe", but can't seem to locate that file either. Thanks, Roger

Thanks HappyScot, that is also what I found....I can't select some and let it auto-curate those, you must use a group predefined by Elements...I have over 70,000 photos, and thought it might be fun to see what PSE thought were "the best" out of a few hundred I've selected, but apparently it won't work that way BTW, I selected, by person, 660 photos, I had it autocurate down to the 10 best, and well, the results were underwhelming at best. Not surwhat it's looking at, but it was fun to see what "it" thought Thanks for the reply. Roger

So I'm trying auto-curate in PSE 2018. Per this video www.adobe.com/products/photoshop-elements/features.html?trackingid=XFWLHLX5&mv=in-product#auto-curate, you "choose any subset in your catalog..." I choose a photo, then shift-select about 8 photos down, select auto-curate, and get a message "autocuration can be applied to a maximum 20,000 photos"....click ok, and it does nothing... Any ideas? Thanks, Roger PS: you can always tell when, each year, my lovely wife gets me the new version of PSE for Christmas...because I come here and pester you folks with a few dozen questions! I just wanted to take a moment and say thanks for all the help you guys provide.

I finally got most of the people tags done on my 72k photos (whew). So my issue is, when I edit my photos, I save them as a copy so as not to overwrite my originals. When I do, the copies no longer have any people tagged like the original. Is there a setting I'm missing or is this normal. Thanks, Roger

The plugin is installed to the correct folder and works fine, but gives the error message first. It's like PSE is remembering where the plug in was first installed previously and can't find it, gives the error message, then runs the new install version just fine. I checked the "do not show again" box. It doesn't really fix the issue, but at least I won't see the popup every time I start the editor and the plugin works.

Win 10 PSE 2018.. I first installed a plug-in filter to it's default location and it ran fine in PSE editor after adding the "additional plug-in folder" location. I got another plugin that needs that "additional plug-in folder" location specified, but in PSE, it can only point to one location. So I went to win 10 add/remove programs and removed the 1st plug in, removed the "additional location" check mark from PSE, reinstalled the plug-in to the plug ins folder, rebooted and restarted PSE. Now I get an error everytime PSE editor starts that says "one or more plugins are currently not avail on your system. The odd thing is if I click ok, the error message goes away and the plugin is then available and usable. So how to I tell PSE to stop looking at the old location, or reset the plugins or...? to correct this issue. Thanks, Roger

Sepiana, Thanks for your reply, changing it to detail now shows the thumbs properly. I was pretty sure that adaptive grid also showed them properly (not cut off) in the last version, but perhaps not. Anyways, your suggestion certainly works. Thanks much. Cheers, Roger

On every one of my previous PSE versions, my thumbnails in organizer would show the whole picture, regardless of thumbnail size. In my new install of PSE 2018, the thumbnails are showing the center of the pic (heads and or feet cutoff, etc...) Is there a setting I'm not seeing to fix this so the thumbnails can change size, but still show the entire picture? Thanks, Roger

Thanks guys for the replies. My files are on a different drive letter and a diiferent folder structure, so i think I'll just try a clean install and see how it goes. Thanks much..

I have PSE 15 installed on my Win 10 computer. For Christmas, I got a new computer (Win 10) and PSE 2018. I've already copied my 64,000 photos over to the new machine. Is there a suggested way or preference to install pse 2018 on my new computer that will keep all my info from my pse 15? Or should I just start fresh with a clean install? Issues? Suggestions? Thanks, Roger

It worked fine in the beginning with PSE15 installed. After reading your reply, I ran some tests and here's what I found... BTW, this is on Windows 10 -Have always used a 5 second delay before auto import. -auto Import with PSE closed...double import attempt. -auto Import with PSE open...worked fine! -Closed PSE and tried again...worked fine?! -Rebooted, import with PSE closed, worked fine!!
So now I have no idea...it appears to be random?... Still open to any ideas, but at this point, I'll just keep testing and hopefully figure this thing out... Thanks

I've have PSE 15 (had 14, 13, 12 etc in years past). I had it setup so when my camera connects to my PC, it auto starts importing the photos to my PC under "my pictures", then opens the organizer. I've always had "my pictures" as a watch folder, just in case some files were added manually. This worked perfectly. Lately though, that has somehow changed. When I connect my camera, it does as before (auto imports and then opens organizer.). But now, once it opens the organizer, I get an addition popup that says it found "new" files in "My pictures" and shows all the files it just imported. If I click ok, it denies every one as" already exists", so I have to cancel that popup and can then continue as before. In other words PSE sees the camera, imports the files, then sees them again in the watch folder and tries to import them again... I know I can disable/remove my watch folder, but then anything I add to that folder without using the camera won't be seen. As I've mentioned, it worked perfectly before, but now does a double take on all picures imported from the camera. I hope this makes sense and someone can help. Thank folks, looking forward to getting this sorted out. Cheers, Roger
