As long as your pictures still physically exist you will be able to import them. The catalog contains pointers to your pictures, not the actual pictures.

Ever since I went to EHDs many years ago I have kept my catalogs on them. I like the idea of everything being on one drive.

I think the reason is that it is that you could use multiple USBs vs. an EHD. I only use an EHD, I have found disks etc. very unreliable when using as a backup.

PSE may be correct. The Backup creates a copy of your current catalog and all your pictures referenced in the catalog.

I agree, do a format each time you move your pictures to the PC or Mac and do it in camera or you are asking for trouble. I know of 2 professional photographers that did not know this and paid a big price for not formatting each time.

You can edit the name under each icon by right clicking. Saves your sanity a bit.

In PSE11 when I display Places there is a Map icon on the lower right, clicking that turns off the map.
I agree with Michel about the "gadgets". I tired Geotagging just to see how it worked several years ago. I can see limited use of it but prefer using the basic system. I find the risks of geotagging(sending/posting a picture out with the info on it) an overwhelming negative.

You can look at the data. In Organizer, click on Information, then Metadata, near the bottom is GPS. The information should be stored there. Look at a picture where you put the data in the IPTC and then at one for the EXIF. If you have time, please post your results here so the next person with this problem can resolve it by reading the thread.

I just glanced at my app for Geotagging. Bringing back vague memories. I made sure the phone time and the camera time were in sync, uploaded the pics and the file from the app, ran the program on my PC which put the geotagging info into the meta data, loaded into PSE. Worked fine.
Is this the procedure you were following? We are using different programs.

It is not just for Iphone(perhaps update the title). I am aware of 2 apps, Geotag Photos Pro(I have used this on both Iphone and Android) and Gpicsync.
The only time I have used it was several years ago when we were on a train trip of 50+ miles and I wanted to know where along the ride the pictures were taken in case I wanted to go back to that spot by car. I can also see a use for it if you cannot download your photos each day and tuck them away with a tag. If you need to go several days, with numerous stops, Geotagging would be very helpful.
Do not post pictures of people, house etc. that has geotagging, unscrupulous individuals will be fast to pick up on that. For this reason if I bought a camera with GPS I would not use it. To easy to forget geotagging is on.
