I am excited to introduce to you the image for our next RAW Challenge. It is always interesting when our members share images from their travels. The photographer describes it this way: " Not a great photo, but it may be a good example of a case where the camera does not necessarily see as we do, showing that processing can serve well an image. Also, it leaves place to personal interpretation on how it can be seen and shown." 1. Participants in the challenge may provide a screenshot of their edits within the RAW converter of their choice along with the reasons for their edits. 2. Following their initial edits members may use whatever “tools" they wish to create an image that portrays their artistic vision for the image as long as the character of the original image is not lost. You may not add anything to the image that wasn’t already there.
3. Including information on plug-ins, actions, external editors, textures, sky replacements etc that were used will only help to inform members of some of the creative options that are available to today’s photographer. 4. Including layer stacks may be something to consider when presenting a final edit. Here is a screenshot of the image we will be working on: I think it is a perfect photo for our challenge and I am excited to see how our members approach it…….not just with their initial RAW edits but with their creative approaches as well. Have fun with this one! You have until Nov.23 to work on this image. Our photographer will select the top three edits before the next CE Challenge is posted on Nov. 25th. The RAW file may be downloaded here.

That's definitely a good raw challenge - I used Lightroom and basically tried to see how much detail and colour I could bring out from the original image. I did also select the sky and brought out some detail and added a hint of blue by adjusting the white balance. I've attached the basic settings panel that I used. Tony

That's definitely a good raw challenge And you got it off to a great start! Nice to see all the color and detail you were able to pull out in the foreground; and impressively in the distant hills.

Edited in CC2024 and finished in NIK Color Effects 6 Custom camera profile with a number of localized adjustments and a crop.

Thanks for including your panels, fotofrank. It is interesting to see how you have used the masking feature. The warmth you have introduced in the foreground gives it a totally different "feel". I am always interested to see different ways of cropping an image. Another nice submission.

Edited in CC2024 and finished in NIK Color Effects 6 Custom camera profile with a number of localized adjustments and a crop. Nice one Frank. I do like the portrait crop which puts more emphasis on the lookout as well as the warmer tones. I may have to try square Tony

After many tries I'm going with this one. I edited in PS Camera RAW with the Adobe Landscape Profile and then chose Auto for the panel. I added separate H/S Adjustment layers for the foreground rocks and the distant hills. I did a solid color adj. layer to add blue to the sky. I finished with NIK Color Efex 5. I masked sections of the image along the way. And as I post this I think the sky is too blue.....

Thought maybe try and reflect some green up into the mist.

removed the speed limit sign. I had wondered what that little green dot was.....was that it? Your new edit has a nice Fall feel to it. I like the 16x9 crop.

Thanks completely missed that, fotofrank . Hmmmm I just did a new edit and used your 16x9 crop. I started with DXO Prime this time, then edited in LR. As part of my workflow I used the color spot adjustment.....it revealed rock in the distant mountains that I hadn't noticed before.......but I never removed the stop sign and it isn't in my image. This time I was attempting to create an image closer to how it actually may have looked when photographed.
This is the green dot that I had noticed in the area below and to the right of the lookout.
" but I never removed the stop sign and it isn't in my image" Correction.....I wasn't looking in the right area. What good eyes you have....of course now I can't not see it.

I'll try for a square crop and I did remove the blue dots - not sure where they came from but could be a spot on the lens. Tony

A really nice job pulling out the detail, tonyw I didn't think I would like a square crop for this image....but you surprised me. I especially like where you started on the bottom right hand corner with that line of stone leading across.....not sure I explained that correctly.
