I just ran into an old Orb tutorial and it reminded me of what fun it is. Here's the simplest way to do it: Crop your photo to a square. Save it with a new name so you don't copy over your photo. At this point I like to copy this layer, but this is not a necessary step. I copy the layer and then work on the copy - so I have the other layer to compare to my finished orb. Filter> Distort> Polar Coordinates> Polar to Rectangular> OK Image> Rotate> Flip Layer Vertical Filter> Distort> Polar Coordinates> Rectangular to Polar> OK Choose a photo with intense colors to get a more natural looking Orb because the result is more shiny - like how you would expect an Orb to look.

That does look like a brain scan. LOL
What is the most interesting part of orb making is the unknown. Sometimes what you think will make a great orb, doesn't work at all and what you think isn't a good starting point, turns out to make something beautiful.

My very first Orb - I've been admiring all the orbs and twirls that members have been making, but never tried it until now. Wow, how easy was that, I can see it could become very addictive. This was made from an image of a lovely red maple leaf

Oops - I think I started something. LOL
What I like about the tutorial is how simple it is - 3 easy steps. The hard part is finding just the right photo.
Everyone's orbs are so unique and such fun. Thanks for playing.
Moto - I like how you put your orb on your original design - that's a great idea - think I'll try that, too.
