Here's my attempt. Converted to b/w through Elements, Topaz B/W, and Perfect Effects. I was trying to capture the energy of the little boy and his uncle trying to hang on to him.

Scania .....in your black and white landscape my eye travels the path of the stream to the clouds in the background. I like the definition you brought out in the clouds. I would be interested in the size of the image that you uploaded. As Phil has pointed out the high resolution image really makes a difference when viewing your image. Helen. The image size is 11.2mb 10000 x 6666 pixels. I usually use Flickr to upload to a post as I find the image quality and size in the post is better than that using imgbb, but in this instance I didn't want this image on my Flickr page. I find sometimes resizing a raw file to 14mb ( which I understand is the maximum for imgbb ) is a problem. Also the process via Flickr to PSE&M using 'Publish' in Lightroom is much more user friendly for my purposes. Really like the B&W Challenge though - great idea !!

Thanks Helen for this wonderful challenge. Here is my b&w conversion and the original in colour. I felt this was a good image for b&w conversion as it had strong lines and geometry. As well, the colour in the signage was quite distracting. I used the full dynamic preset in Nik Silver Efex Pro to give it a bit of contrast punch. upload my photo on internet

fotofrank.....thanks for adding you color version and your Silver Efex screenshot.......Silver EFex is my go-to-software for BW but I usually tweak a preset......will have to try your approach with the sliders. PeteB....seeing the edited color version does make for a better comparison. Everyone.....I am not intending to comment on every entry, just those that grab my attention for one reason or another. However, I want all of you to feel free to comment or ask questions of the other participants. That being said, preeb......cropping tight on the man in your picture made for a great portrait.....his face has a lot of character and he makes a great subject....nice focus on the eyes.

I don't shoot street photography often but when I do I like to convert the image to B/W. This was taken on a trip a few years ago outside a store selling 500 types of Belgian Beer.....I liked this line-up of young men in front of the store. u.cubeupload.com/HMCA/MG2464BeerColor.jpgI found the color a distraction and instead wanted to focus attention on the young men standing in a row. Edited in Silver Efex, I tweaked the dynamic contrast smooth preset and added a few control points to darken areas of the image. I also used a lens fall-off vignette and slightly burned the bottom edge. u.cubeupload.com/HMCA/MG2464BeerStoreBWver.jpg

I couldn't figure out how to add the information requested. I did all the editing in Lightroom. Berie

Berengaria.....B/W is a great choice for the documentation of this old farm. It always makes me sad to see the demolition of old historical structures. Adding that your image was converted in LR completes the information requested for this challenge.

I think I converted this one in PE 12. Lightened the underside of the roof a little, increased black levels.

Instead of using LR to convert to B&W I used Silver Efex Pro, which I have never used before. I applied the High Structure (smooth) preset.

fotofrank....removing the color has made the repeating shapes dominate your thoughtfully composed image. I suppose it comes down to what you want your image to be about.....color or shapes? bryston3bsst....this industrial shot works well for B/W. The geometry, and interplay of lights and darks make it a good candidate. I like the shadow reflections on the front.
