This has been an interesting thread to follow and has resulted in one member leaving the forum.
As we are so new, would this be a good time to bring the rules and guidelines to the forefront for everyones attention. After the interactions on this thread, I went back to the guidelines posted under Home / FAQs / Photoshop Elements & More Forum Rules and found…….
Rule 3 - Copyrighted material
You must own the rights to the photos you post here. If you are editing the work of another, you must have their permission to use their photo. Stock photos for use in contests are allowed, provided they have been obtained appropriately……...
Had Bokeh been aware of this he/she may not have edited Pauls beautiful image without permission.
I tend to agree with Buckskin, in that "Show your Work" should not be a section for critiques but simply an easy way to showcase our work. Perhaps a "Sticky" in each section outlining in more detail the purpose of that section of the forum would help.
Would it be possible to have a separate section for those looking for critiques, perhaps we could run a poll to see if thats something members want.
Having said all that, I want to thank all those who have worked so hard to get this new forum going, and the administrators for the work they are doing in keeping it running. I think we are off to a great start.

I'm sorry that my respond to bokeh made such a discussion. I stated my (personal) opinion about editing others pictures. I also questioned his intimation about posting Paul's picture on other sites. I'm not starting a new discussion.. just clarifying my thoughts. Paul I'm sorry that I disturbed your thread. I have never experienced something like this before, I hope noone thinks that I had in mind to start "a war" of some kind. My suggestion about the matter in question, is either to tell that you want your picture to be edited, or to make a separate section to post in. You were just brave enough to say what the rest of us were thinking and I, for one, am grateful that you did.
I personally don't believe that being a member of a forum for just a few hours gives anyone the moral right to barge in and start criticizing others.
Myself, I have little room to say anything; as, I am just thankful that others much smarter than myself took it upon themselves to make this new site available, and available free of charge; otherwise, if it were not free, I couldn't be here.
That being said, I believe that there needs to be another section added specifically for posting images seeking helpful critique, a section completely separate from this one; if memory serves, I believe there was such a separate section at EV.
From the title of this section, "SHOW YOUR WORK", I took it to be just that, a place to show others what one has done, without the trauma of strangers belittling their efforts.
Although I am very thick-skinned, it wouldn't take me long to just quit posting my work if all it got me was criticism; a horse that gets whipped every time he is bridled soon gets smart and cannot be caught.
Just my pennies worth; ....... I don't have two cents.
ON EDIT: SOMEHOW, THIS DOUBLE POSTED
I went to "edit this post", but could not find a "delete this post" button.
Thank you, BuckSkin!

Well said Crafteysnapper!! But did you know you spelled the very last word wrong Sorry, to quote the old Flip Wilson show "The devil made me do it"!! And Wayne, I just can't resist pointing out that you put an extra 'e' in Craftysnapper's name!!!! But to get back on topic, I have really enjoyed seeing these pictures of dear old Birmingham. I spent many an hour studying for my degree in the old Library. Bayla And "Senior Moments" are quite abundant this morning/afternoon

ON EDIT: SOMEHOW, THIS DOUBLE POSTED I went to "edit this post", but could not find a "delete this post" button. BuckSkin,
I went ahead and deleted your duplicate post. If you click on the Gear button to the right of the Edit button, you will find the Delete Post option.
Thanks for taking care of that.
For what it's worth, after already clicking "edit", then slicking the "gear" button in that window, all I get is "bookmark"
There sure are a lot of new ways of doing things to learn and remember.

Don't click on the Edit button. Go straight to the Gear button and click on it. Then, you can select "Delete Post" from the drop-down menu. As a side note -- You can delete a post you created within your own thread or within another member's thread. You cannot delete a thread you created; you need to contact one of the Administrators/Moderators to do it for you.

It has been an "interesting" thread, and I have learned a great deal from it, although I confess I feel a bit bruised by it. Thanks very much for understanding about our newness, and for you kind words.

May I ask a question regarding 'dust on lens' please? I'm not a photographer, by any stretch of the imagination. I have a 'point and shoot' for snaps and my mobile phone camera! If a speck of dust were on the lens, is that how it would show up or would it just 'not be seen' in the resulting photo? Also, for point of fact, I had to look good and hard, with the navigation given in a 'certain' post, to find the speck. I've obviously not got 'the eye' for photos Craftysnapper, brilliant images!!! Thanks

Thanks I was wondering that myself Julie. It would be helpful to know the answer! Regarding the spot, I also had to look hard to find it, but in truth, now I can't help seeing it! I don't usually look that carefully at images either, but perhaps that would be good to practice. What do they call it, doing edge detail as a final check?

I personally don't think it is dust. If it were it would have shown up in the very next picture in the same place. And if you have one speck of dust usually there will be more. Yes that is how dust looks in a picture. If the OP would magnify that area to 100 -150% he could quickly tell if it is a speck of dust or bird. I'm going with the bird. Dean

Pertaining to dust on lens, although I am far from qualified to answer, it has been my own experience that, unless the dust is too big to be called dust, so long as it is on the objective lens (or filter), it will NOT SHOW in the resulting image, something to do with the focus distance. This can be compared to how such things as chain-link fences disappear when the camera is at a certain range of distance from the fence and the subject is also far enough beyond the fence. Raindrops, however, will show as smudgy spots. The always-there specks that show up on images are more often than not dirt on the sensor itself, or should I say the guard that is over the sensor. When these spots began showing on our images, I did a ton of reading and research, bought a box full of tools, and learned how to clean the sensors on our cameras. This information applies to DSLRs; I do not know how dust on the lens would affect a point&shoot. Thanks for reading.

Thanks BuckSkin I had a feeling such a small speck on a lens might not be visible in a photo. I just wondered in view of the harsh comment made at an earlier point. Thanks again Julie

I noticed that the camera I just got has a "clean image sensor" selection. This article sent me looking for what that means, and I came up with this: linkI'm grateful this came up so I learned an important piece of camera maintenance!

The best tool I have found to clean out the sensor housing before the dust/dirt has a chance to adhere to the sensor is this : www.amazon.com/dp/B00017LSPI/ref=wl_it_dp_o_pC_nS_ttl?_encoding=UTF8&colid=3S5AYNW1CEO7I&coliid=IBIMCJMORFH14&psc=1Get the big one; they make a smaller size. Remove the lens; turn ON the camera and set it for "manual clean", which raises the mirror from in front of the sensor. Point the opening downward and shoot blasts of air up into the cavity. Once the dust adheres to the sensor, nothing short of physical cleaning is going to dislodge it. The automatic cleaning feature works by reversing the electric charge in hopes of repelling the already charged particles; once this is done, my above instructions should be followed to remove these particles or they will just settle back onto the sensor; maybe the particles will settle in a different place, but they will re-adhere nonetheless. There are mixed reviews as to the effectiveness of automatic sensor cleaning features. Ten different conversations and a tar-and-feathering could be gotten from this single thread. Thanks for reading.

From the attitude exhibited in the less than 24 hours of membership, I figure the loss is our gain or matters would have just gotten worse.
