Hi Fauxtoto, ... For my part, I conclude that Photos is usually ok, but not in the case of this specific image. Why? I do not know. ... did you first convert the image in LR from ProPhoto to sRGB before exporting the jpg file with an embedded sRGB color space? Nope.To my knowledge, I did nothing of the sort. All I did, by using as usual the most standard settings and processes, is that I simply edited the image in LR and, afterwards, I opened the edited image in LR and Photos. Since you didn't convert the image from ProPhoto to sRGB in LR before exporting to a jpg and embedding sRGB colour space then that is at least a contributing factor for the colour mismatch for the reasons in my previous post.

It seems we have done everything we could to find an explanation to the mismatch of the colours observed between LR and Photos, and that maybe we should now conclude this thread. Fauxtoto, I agree. It does seem like that.
If you can live with this "mystery", that's all it matters.

I am not a LR user so I did a bit of googling on what it actually does regarding converting colour spaces.
It seems by default that is uses ProPhoto as the working colour space. If you then choose sRGB as the colour space for the export file, then LR automatically converts the image from ProPhoto to sRGB prior to the export. You don't have to convert it yourself first.
So in this case, I suspect the colour management in MS Photos does not work as it should to display images consistently.

It would be interesting (enlightening) if other Lightroom users joined this discussion and shared their experiences. Do they have the same problem? Do they use ProPhoto color space? If not, what do they use? In LR I use Adobe RGB to export to PSD files for editing and use the more universal sRGB to export to jpg for viewing. I don't experience screen colour mis-matches. My monitor is calibrated which helps. I never use profoto when exporting from Lightroom. Profoto is best used for 16 bit per channel files. I edit PSD files as 8 bit per channel. Using the profoto colour space for 8 bit per channel files can cause colour problems. Another problem to look out for is not exporting a jpg file as CYMK. Sometimes photoshop will export a jpg as CYMK by default. Then the colours will look distorted on a monitor or an application that is using RGB. If the jpg is re-exported as RGB then the colours will look correct on a picture viewer. Kind regards Chris *sRGB was designed for web viewing. Adobe RGB was designed for photographers and is better for printing. It has a better colour gamut compared to sRGB. I set photoshop elements to view in Adobe RGB to optimise for printing.
