My inspiration as well, Tom!
"These are all great! What a great tut, Tom! I would never have thought that this would look good on a landscape image but I was inspired by whippet (yes, you Margaret! ) to give it a try. I love your results, Margaret!"

These mirror box creations keep getting better and better. Tom, that's outstanding.

Funnily enough I'd been looking at this for a future challenge but Tom beat me to it Hey Tony, sorry! I guess this was bound to happen some day. I like your interpretation, and the fact that you also thought it worthy of a CE challenge is validating.

Well Phooey. I wanted to have a reflection in the 5 walls with the object itself floating in the center of the box. I didn't quite pull it off, but maybe someone with better skills will be able to achieve that effect.

Trying to achieve Tom's suggestion of having the object floating in the box. Don't know if I've quite managed it... image from Pixabay...

Thanks for taking the challenge Lillias! Not bad, but I think the solution is in the "lighting" of the scene. Perhaps darkening every panel so the central object stands out? I will give it a go and post if I have some success. Anyone else?

Closer, but still missing something vital. What is it?? Trying to make the unbelievable believable.

Just an idea ... In the cup and balloon examples, the primary object is still displayed on the back wall. Try removing the cup/balloon on the back wall. For the floating object (cup, balloon) >>> I assume you captured it using the "Quick Selection Tool" ... however, you did it, you captured the cup shadow as well. Just capture the cup. Then, paste it into the box (blank back wall) and add an appropriate shadow using Edit layer Style. The cup needs a big shadow. The balloon, just a wee hint and thin shadow ... possibly no shadow. Leave the mtns io the balloon back wall. Clive Hummmmmmmmm ... not sure. Fast and dirty work.

It occurred to me that this is an instance where a white drop shadow might look more realistic. I don't see many balloons, but I see planes going over from my balcony all day long. They reflect the sun light, but there are no shadows. Just my 2 cents.

Agree ritage..nothing to "shadow" on. (There are exceptions.) But it needs some sort of highlights and you are on the right track. Good.
Google "Crepuscular rays" .. possible to get "shadows" but I agree ... looks weird.

Thanks for your replies pontiac1940 and ritage ! The back wall image was annoying, I don't know why I didn't think to just do away with it!

The balloon doesn't have any metal parts.
