Great idea, dandc. Question....did you put your texture layer on top or beneath the original? This really came out very nice.

I used 2 textures on this shot and duplicated the background layer. The first texture was used in multiple layers (with different blend modes). The second texture was used in just one layer. I moved the duplicated background layer in-between some of the texture layers while experimenting. In the end this duplicated background layer had at least one texture layer above it (can't remember for sure if there was more than one texture layer above it or just one) and ended up in Normal blend mode at a somewhat low opacity to help bring out some of the subject coloring/detail.
I generally just pile my textures on top of my original and mask the textures off the subject, so the processing on this shot was abit different for me. The background was almost white so adding textures on top didn't add the effect I was used to and hoping for.
