I posted my "finished" that I was fairly happy with (the last one I posted here) to the photography forum I go to, on the Moon thread that runs there continually, then the next day another user posted a moon photo he took and did some post processing on that was very good. Here is a LINK to HIS photo he took for reference. I told him how good his photo looked, and mentioned I was trying to learn how to do better post processing of my own. He then took my photo I posted online and did his processing on my photo which blew me away! Here is MY Moon Photo he processed and he showed me his layers. I asked him to tell me what each of the layers meant, and he wrote this: What are your thoughts of what he did and how he did it??

I think all the tools he used did a fantastic job. I'm familiar with Topaz DeNoise AI and have no idea about the rest.

Charles - running an image thru four programs that sharpen is not something that I would do.
Do I have your permission to edit your original moon image?

Here is my original Finished photo was. This is on Flickr. Click on the filename (Moon Crop 05/22/2021) below the image, then click again on the Flickr image with your mouse zoom around full size to see it full screen. Thank you for your opinion and help! Frank,
I like it, it looks good, but darker overall than what I prefer.
But, how did you use Camera Raw without having my raw file? All you had were jpg files. Which file did you use? My "finished" file or sooc file?
What is the sharpen.atn file?

Frank,
What was in your Layers column?
How many different steps did you do and what were they? I was hoping to know all of this.....

Here is MY Moon Photo he processed and he showed me his layers. The final presented is excellent, BUT your original is also very good. I've never been thrilled with a photo of the moon ... they are "ok" at best. Your photo is very good. Clive

Frank, But, how did you use Camera Raw without having my raw file? All you had were jpg files. What is the sharpen.atn file? Charles, fotofrank is not online at the moment; he will address your questions in more details. In a nutshell, . . . You can process .jpg files in the Adobe Raw Converter (ACR). In the Editor, go to File>Open in Camera Raw. Actions (.atn) create the automated steps needed for doing something (thus saving you lots of time).

You can process .jpg files in the Adobe Raw Converter (ACR). Yes, this is a most important feature. I open jpgs in ACR daily. I shoot raw and process in ACR. But, sometimes I want to do a couple of minor tweaks (say darken a light/white area, or lighten shadows) on the jpgs. ACR is great for fine tuning a few jpg photos before posting. Clive

I am assuming that to run a .jpg file in Raw you will not get the full benefit of the Raw processing if an actual Raw file was used? Also the action file he gave me, I could use in Elements to get the same actions he got? How is that done? Can the actions file be changed since I do not like my moon shots to be as dark as he made mine?

Also the action file he gave me, I could use in Elements to get the same actions he got? How is that done? Yes, your assumption is correct. See . . . Process JPEG with the Raw Converter in Photoshop Elements. You need to load fotofrank's .atn file via the Actions Panel. 1. Go to Window>Actions. 2. Click on the four-lined square in the upper right corner of the Actions panel and select Load Actions. 3. In the dialog box that opens up navigate to where you saved the action (.atn file) on your computer and click on the Load button. (Or you can just double-click on the .atn file.) 4. To run the action, click on the Play button in the panel’s upper right corner.
