This photo is not from today, but responding to tourerjim You'll have post picture of one of yours, Clive, be good to see one. North American robins were named by early settlers because they have distinctly red breast as do the much smaller European robin species. Our robins are in fact thrushes and much larger. Both are pretty birds, but the EU robin gets the nod for overall cuteness. Comparisons are discussed here. These are old photos from my archives. Most migrate south in winter but a few stay over in cities where the urban climate is warmer than rural areas.

parent helpers didn't quite share their enthusiasm for the project. That was a real nice gift you got Helen!! I would not be at all interested in ordering any owl pelets....

Fresh here today. I refilled the fat feeder this morning and this northern flicker was on it shortly after. The whitetails were in the river valley in late afternoon. The sidelight shows off their moist breath exhaled into the chill.

When we lived up north, the Flickers were a rarity. When I saw one on the feeder, I had to contact the Audubon Society to find out what he was. The variety of birds we had on our feeders was always such fun. Your photos really remind me of the 'good old days'

they were both perched in the spruce tree I'm glad you included those arrow pointers, Clive. They sure know how to camo themselves. Or perhaps it's just my old eyes. My thoughts exactly, Jim. (Re.the birds). You certainly have got sharp eyes, Clive.
